Case capacity 6XC vs 6CM

I was under the impression that the CM had more capacity than the 6XC but looking around I've found that the 6XC holds 49.3 gr. of water using Norma brass and according to Nosler's site the CM holds 49.2. So my question is...Being virtually the same in capacity, would load data be nearly interchangeable? Or am I missing something?

Looking forward to the discussion and thanks, John.

Interchangeable? As much as 280 Remington and 7x64 Brenneke have interchangeable load data. The differences will be masked by the differences between rifles.

Yes, I think they are somewhat interchangeable if you are trying to establish an initial baseline of minimum and maximum velocity/powder windows.

For example, I use reloading data from manufacturers websites sometimes and 6mm Creedmoor is more common to find than 6xc. I will often use the 6mm Creedmoor minimum charge weight as my starting point for the 6XC if the XC is not specifically available.

My son's 6 creedmoor takes about 3 grains more H4350 than my 6xc using the same bullet. Creedmoor is about 60 fps faster.

Is he talking about the 6 comp or 6 creed?
The 6creed holds about 2g H2O more than the 6XC
Don't know about the 6 comp.

In my previous post I stated that the cases are comparable. To illustrate, I looked up the reloading data for 6mm Creedmoor (70gr Speer TNT and H414) and had someone use the same components for 6XC in Quick Load software program.

Quick Load gave The same exact minimum and maximum powder charge recommendations for 6XC as the Hodgdon website reloading data for 6mm Creedmoor.

additionally, the chamber dimensions for the two cases are nearly identical.

hope this helps.

I've used 6 Creed data for working up new loads in my 6XC's......It is very similar.....not exact but close enough to be a good, safe starting point. An experienced reloader will have no problems working up safe 6XC loads with Creed data....

Been away for a while with no service. Thanks to all that replied. Much good info.

Regards, John.

Never mind the why, can annealed 6XC cases be safely fire formed in 6 Creedmoor cases?

Hornady 6 creed holds on avg 52grs H20, Alpha holds 51.3grs, ADG-50grs, Nosler must be very, very thick.

Nosler's online load data only shows "Usable Case Capacity"... meaning the H20 capacity remaining in the case after the specific bullet is seated to their listed COAL.

Quickload shows H2O capacities for the 2 cartridges as...

6 XC = 49.7 gr

6 Creedmoor = 51 gr

Interesting, at least now I know what the Swiss is. It's not even comparable though. The Swiss being a totally different Case design.

I posted the Whitley because it is Geometrically the Same with exception to a slightly narrower Shoulder. The Whitley should feed better than the Creed, the Brass should last longer and it takes advantage of Creedmoor Brass, which is everywhere. Ironically Whitley claimed he was taking advantage of the 22-250 Lapua Brass. Which the article states is a No-Neck turn application. I'm Crazy, because I would literally consider chambering the Whitley and plan on using 6mm Creedmoor Brass exclusively.

Between the XC the Creed I can see a whole list of possible issue scenario's. Crazy considering the XC is very successful and popular Cartridge in it's own right. But that's not what the Op asked, he's only interested in interchangeable Load Data.

Short answer. The load data is not interchangeable.

The 6mm Creedmoor case is longer than the 6xc and has more capacity. A starting load for 6 Creed will be on the high side of medium for 6xc.
