Sorry JB. I've been out shooting trying to get past second place at ASC. :p Haven't been up on the blogs :comp:

Robert

My load was

Boron Nitride coated 117 grain DTAC 0.020 into Lands
Latest batch Norma 6XC Brass
CCI BR-2 Primers
40.9 grains H4350
Neck sized only 0.266 bushing no expander ball
This safe in my rifle. Everyone else should start at 38 grains or less and work their way up to a safe load. Standard disclaimer.

This was in previously fired cases. Even with the nitride coating I feel there is too much neck tension in the first firing. I'm considering going to a larger bushing. The carbon in the neck left from the previous firings seems to act as an additional lubricant.

I do use the expander ball for the initial sizing, not in subsequent sizing.

Hope this is of some help.

John

Seems you get impressive velocity out of your Dasher. Is it accurate?

Testing uncoated 117's in the 6CM. Very windy!

05-21-2007 at Sacramento Load Testing the Sierra 117 grain bullets. Temp = 66 degrees at 08:00.
OALs for the 117s = 2.980”, for the 115’s = 2.950” and for the 107’s = 2.953” to touch the lands.

All five shot groups 100 yards..
Powder – Load –Primer – Bullet – OAL ---------- MV – ES - SD
H1000 – 47.5 gr. – BR2 – S115 – jump 0.020” – 3059 – 30 - 11 ---- S115s for reference…
H1000 – 47.5 gr. – BR2 – S115 – jump 0.020” – 3070 – 22 - 08 ----

H1000 – 47.0 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 2979 – 19 – 08
H1000 – 47.0 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 2990 – 23 – 08
H1000 – 47.5 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 3009 – 18 – 08
H1000 – 47.5 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 3009 – 23 – 09
H1000 – 48.0 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 3045 – 31 – 12
H1000 – 48.0 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 3037 – 17 – 07
H1000 – 48.5 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 3080 – 25 – 09
H1000 – 48.5 gr. – BR2 – S117 – jump 0.020” – 3078 – 18 – 08

The 48 grain load produced the smallest vert groups.,one group was 0.059” vertical) gusting winds opened the horz part of the groups

Jerry,

Thanks for the info. I was on the fence on ordering the 117's but I guess I need a box after reading your results.

What is the twist Rate on your 6CM. And Barrel length?

I was wondering if a true 1:8.04 cut rifle barrel with that size case will work on the 117's.

Donovan- I'm finally going to step into the 6mm arena with one of Roberts creations. I have every thing now & ready for the gunsmith.

Russ,

1:8 is on the edge and there is a good chance it will not work.

I just received a box too - a fair number of them have noticably crooked tips. This does not give one confidence.

Robert,
That doesn't look good. I hope that Mr. Tubb sees this and can respond.

I just received a box too - a fair number of them have noticably crooked tips. This does not give one confidence. Here's a picture of a sampling of the ones I could just see with a visual inspection of about 50 bullets.

Despite SSS's advice to shoot them, I would not want to shoot bullets like this.

How can this be acceptable for long range work where every little bit matters?

Robert Whitley

The one missing the polymer tip completely is very disconcerting if you ask me... The real question is will they affect the performance my guess would be no, the bullet is probably going to deform enough from bore pressures to make them nearly centered plus how much mass do they have I don't think they will off set the balance of the bullet. However, they don't look pretty and that is a plus no matter what. I think a bigger issue would be the concentricity of the ogive and the rest of the bullet...

Connor

It's not missing the polymer tip - if you look close, part of it is there, and part of it is missing. A few bullets in the box are this way, which makes me wonder whether when you go to shoot them, some of the tips are just going to break off or fall off.

I ask myself this: Would David Tubb shoot bullets like that in a match? I think not!

Robert Whitley

I have never seen a nosler bt or the cheap deadly accurate a-max with tips half that bad. Theres no excuse for selling bullets like that. If those tips are that bad its going to have a effect on b.c. At close range it won't matter but I doubt you will ever win a 1000 yard match with bullets that look like that.
