Case 148 DEWC 12 BHN .358

Anyone shooting these bullets ? I would like to know what everyone is loading for a mild target load . I'll be shooting it out of a S&W 3" HB mod 65 357 ONLY using 38 special brass. Never shot cast so all your input will be helpful .
Chris

CW, you might check out Chuck Hawks site. I was looking for some 38Sp trail boss powder loads and found some info there and also comparison on ..357 loads.

Supplies are pretty hard to find now , I have primers but Bullseye and W231 are thepowders I have on hand now and don't see things changing so fast . If times were different I could check the load books try different powders and bullet weights . Times have changed . Thanks for answering.

That's what I started loading 2.7 of Bullseye , will be shooting them on Thursday , had some old stock of HBWC , ordered new DEWC also in 148 gr. I normally shoot 1911's 230 fmj's , want to change things up alittle in these times. Thanks for answering.

My Load in a .38 Special using Hard Cast DEWC is, 3.1 gr. of W231 SPPrimed.
Have not shot my Revolvers' in years, but that Load is Buried in my Brain.
Still have lots of 'm ready to go.
Nice Load.

Bullseye is a great pistol powder, but will be a little dirty. Personally I load 3.2 gr behind a 158, but I'm also shooting out of a 357 Mag, so I have some leeway with pressure. This is a mid-level book load for 38 Special per lyman 49th.

231 is a little slower and cleaner burning, I'd say up about 0.5gr; but certainly look it up some loads to verify.

38 Special is great for cast, there are lots of things to look for in how your pistol shoots; mostly leading in the barrel, which can be caused by a lot of variables powder / pressure to hot or too mild being two causes, most of the others are due to bullet construction / lube / size in relation to your pistol.

I haven't shot my wheel guns in a while either , do to the shortages , I had 1/4 or a pound of Bullseye , I do have a pound of W231 that I use for 45acp , I'll try some for the revolvers. I'll give 3.1 a try . Thanks for answering 54.

Thank you for the loads , exactly what I was looking for. I will probably try and stock up on W231 , I could use it for both my 45 1911's & 38 spl. . . ..revolvers. thank you for taking the time to answer my post.

Thanks for the info , my 3" S&W is a mag. but will be only shooting 38spl. Wish this dry spell with supplies would get back to nornal , wishful thinking . Thanks for answering. I found Charcoal lighter fluid that I use to clean my rifle benchrest trigger . Started using it as a primary cleaner in my 45 1911's , will see how it does for the WC. Thanks again.

Never tried Red Dot , powders are so hard to come by , I'm going to try and build up my W231 , works in my autos and revolvers. Wish I could try RedDot . Maybe one day when things change . Thanks Ron for answering.

Red dot works well, but in my tests it didn’t prove to be the most accurate. The most accurate loads I’ve tested have been with, in order:

452AA, Bullseye, 700X, Red Dot, Unique.
452AA has been supplanted by WST and a lot of shooters load that with excellent results. Ken Waters of Handloader found Green Dot to be accurate (if not the best) in multiple guns. All of these powders also work well in 45ACP.
Lots of options out there

riflewomam sure did her homework , will keep the list of powders to try. Can't wait for things to get back to normal . I thank everyone for taking the time in answering my post .

Only way I could shoot bullseye is with a handgun rest. Not as steady and eyes aren't as sharp as my younger years.

You put a smile on my face with that one! Listened to that on the hour ride from my grandparents on Sunday evenings while wrapped up in a blanket to stay warm in the back seat of our '49 Chevy.

Radio was a great entertainment media, you actually had to think to understand it!
