CAN A 40-65 WIN BE USED FOR DEER HUNTING IN ILLINOIS 2023

Rules are confusing .Must be straight walled and at least 30 cal.. and published data on load which i have.....I know its tapered from 45 to 40 but still straight walled i think.....what ya think

None that I've seen, but I haven't been paying much attention. The website says details are still to be worked out, but I don't understand their rationale. I tried pretty hard many years ago (about the time they finally allowed a handgun-only season) to talk them into making rifles chambered in original old black-powder cartridges legal, but no interest. Done with deer hunting myself, but glad to see a little common sense emerging. I do think some of the allowed cartridges are a bit under-powered for my comfort level.

Don’t agree with the 45 colt listing. They should try a 325 grain slammer at 1100 fps then call it light.

Is 454 Casull legal?
Buy the brass, trim it to 45 LC length and have fun.

If you get asked about the chamber marking, tell them you had it rechambered, but not marked.

Play their game.

BTW, doing the brass thing is also a very good way to separate hunting loads from plinking loads.
Boxes with proper labeling is better though.
