Cabelas/Bass Pro

In my experience, Cabelas has gone downhill after being acquired by Bass Pro. I got better service from both when they were independent.

I will agree that customer service was not great. I paid online, went in store to pick up. I have a ccw and do not require a call in background check. After i filled out normal forms it was 1 hour before they gave me the rifle. No onw would answer me what was taking so long. I would think people with ccw would have a little bit of a fast pass since no background check is needed. Everywhere else is way faster.

The best sale was going on at Gander Outdoors for the last few weeks as they were getting out of the firearms and hunting and fishing business. 25% off all firearms and 50% off all accessories.

Kind of took a turn for the worse. I'm not much of a price shopper, though it is quite evident Cabela's is not shy of full retail-plus pricing these days. Used to give some good deals on specials when sending credit card statement, etc. Now one gets extra "points", yet no deal on what you bought. Big change in rewarding customer loyalty. I quit using their card for the first time in 20+ years.

About to pull the plug on my Cabellas card after 11 yrs. Not the same since Bass Pro came along. Good riddance!

4 years ago I bought a used Savage 12 F/V, 6.5 Creed. Best used rifle I ever bought for accuracy.
Yes, the stock is junk, but my intention was a 600 to 1000 yd gun. After loading up some 6.5's went to the range and was shooting 6" groups at 600 yds.

Replaced the stock (Boyds), scope (Vortex PST II), replaced the trigger (Timney). Improved on my reloads and now it will shoot 6-7" groups at 1000 yds.

Can't go wrong with a savage. Replacement parts are cheap, lot's of barrel selection and very easy to spin a new barrel on when you shot out the factory one.
