Hi Stevey:
Butch's is, in my opinion, one of the best cleaning chemicals on the market. It will give you blue patches if used with a bronze brush, but I still recommend it.,Note: nylon brushes won't take out the carbon as good as bronze does and neither will take out the copper, it has to be dissolved by the Butch's. A nylon brush works good to apply Sweet's or Butch's after you've removed the carbon, but it doesn't work good to remove the carbon.) I've had excellent results with using two wet patches with Butch's followed by a wet bronze, brass) brush with Butch's and I stroke slowly down and back one time for every round fired. Patch out the fouling with two dry patches, then push a "sloppy wet" patch with Butch's slowly down the bore and let it all set for 10-15 minutes,go change targets or something). Patch it out dry, followed with a patch with just a drop of Kroil or some good oil or, if you use coated bullets, push a patch coated with whatever you're using and it's ready to shoot.
When the day is over I follow the procedure above, up to the patch with Kroil, and then push a wet patch of Butch's down and leave it overnight to pick up any copper leftover.
This is my "regimen" ... there are many others, from those who say don't pull a brush back into the barrel to those who have shot 5,000 rounds and their bore "has never seen a brush". I have not had any problems pulling a brush back into the barrel, though I do it very slowly and carefully. I regularly shoot with some of the best score benchrest shooters in the country and, almost without exception, they clean with the chemistry of choice, usually Butch's) and bronze brushes and they clean frequently.
