Bullet weight in your Sako built 6mm PPC

I know that none of us shoot the Sako factory built 6mm PPC in serious competition, but many of us are interested in getting as close to 'one hole' as we can. For those of you who do not compete but chase that elusive 'one hole', what bullet are you loading~? Can I expect better than this~? The rifle is a Vixen Hunter, not the heavy barrel single shot target/varmint. The only modification was bedding the action.

You may want to try a 68 be Hillbilly bullet with either IMR 8208 or AA 2015. I have also had good results with the 58 grain V- Max.

That's the same bullet I use in my factory Sako 6PPC. It shoots in the 2's with some groups under. I use N133 powder, Lapua cases and Fed 205M primer. I neck turn and clean up the necks. You don't say how many shots or the size of the group but judging from the pic, I'd say that's pretty good shooting for a factory rifle and probably about as good as it gets.

Why do you 'neck turn' the Lapuas? Are you taking just a tiny clean-up cut?

I don't know of a cartridge that does not benefit from neck turning. Yes even Lapua brass in inconsistent in neck thickness. I take two thousands but some Lapua brass requires more than that. Note: I use a bushing die with no expander.

I've been using the Nosler 70grn bullets in my Sako 6PPC repeater. Neck turned Lapua .220 Russian brass, N133 and CCI 450 primers. It shoots minute of coyote and cycles like butter. I've tried a lot of the benchrest bullets and had very good results on paper. I choose the Noslers because they work extremely well on Coyotes in my other 6mm rifles. I neck turn out of necessity since the seated bullets in Lapua brass don't give me enough neck clearance- especially with the Noslers.

I skimmed turned necks on about 200 Lapua 6 br and 200 pieces of Norma 6br brass last summer and fall. The Lapua was MUCH more inconsistent than the Norma. JME. WD

Just curious but what Sako factory 6PPC are you all talking about, the Sako USA single shot?

That target was shot with an unaltered Vixen Hunter repeater. I'll now be working with a heavy barrelled single shot Target/Varmint and will be expecting results to be at least as good.

Added this to the original post:
The heavy barrelled version was really a disappointment. Waaay too heavy. I never went too far with the ladder building because I just didn't enjoy lugging it around and consequently never found its real potential. Now I just sit around suffering with seller's remorse for having sold the Vixen repeater.

So as I find SAKO Vixens in 6mm PPC, the prices asked are always at least $500 more than I sold mine for. Did I screw up? Or did I "REALLY SCREW UP~?"

That's 5 shots. Shot quite a few powder-bullet combinations and numerous ladders to get to that target but was quite pleased when I arrived at that spot. That rifle is the one I will always regret selling~!

I have shot smaller five shot groups with the heavy barreled A1 shooting 65gr. Bergers. I can not speak to the Vixen repeater, but would not mind having one in 6ppc to hunt with. You are right about the heavy barreled gun weighing a ton. I don’t see myself lugging it around hunting. I may take it out some day for a spin for some shooting house doe eradication.
