6mm ppc brass

I'm in the process of purchasing a Sako 6mm PPC USA single shot rifle which has a .271-.272 chamber. The rifle comes with some Sako brass but I know in the future I will need to make brass as there are no Sako 6mm PPC USA brass here in Canada that I can source. I know most PPC shooters get their brass by using the Laupa 220 R. Right now here there just isn't any to be had and may be like this for a while, but I am able to source 100 Laupa 6.5 Grendel brass and I read that the Grendel is basically a 6ppc necked upped to 6.5. Is there a downside to using this brass to form PPC-USA brass or am I better to wait and try and source the 220 Russian. TKS
I've read all of your posts re the 6MM PPC and hope that you have found a suitable solution. If you have you will want to extend the life of your cartridges for as many firings as possible.
The less you push the brass around the greater its life expectancy will be. I'd suggest that after each firing you resize the neck only. Have you considered neck sizing only?
I bought a die from a gentleman who shot 6PPC with his dad for years. Here's some of what he told me. "You may not believe this, but my father has two sets of Lapua cases that have over (50) firings on them that he still uses! The other shocking part is that has been with NO annealing. Not sure on the frequency of his full-length sizing, but usually just the slightest bump on the shoulder is all that is needed."
I thought his remarks were very thought provoking and felt that they might be of use to you.

Thank you for the advice. I have since found some 6 ppc usa brass. (Norma). So far it seems to be good stuff. I've got appx 7 firings on them with no problem although I can tell they will not last like my 6 br Laupa brass.. With Norma the weakness lies with the primer pockets. My shoulder bump is .0015 so it isn't worked much. I'm still on the fence about the 6.5 Grendel brass. Some shooters here say it will work good others say not to bother. Guess I will have to try some for myself to see. Thanks again for the post.

Picture of the rifle I purchased. Mint on the inside and outside. Hope it shoots like it looks.View attachment 1419091
That gorgeous rifle will give you no end of pleasure. If you will take the time to work up a load with various bullets, powders, and powder weights, you will end up with a rifle that shoots well beyond your expectations. SAKO really had it right when they built their Vixen Hunter with the L461 action.

Rifle shoots really great. So far I've got it to a mid to high 2 with 58 gr bullet and N-133. You are right in that Sako done a really great job. Too bad they don't make them any more.

Finally got to give my Sako a try. As you posted @cwebster Benchmark is great. I tried it with the 64 gr Stinger bullet and it shoots great. First time out and was shooting in the high 2's. The 75 gr Speer HP with H 322 also shoots great and works with my 14 twist. I will now fine tune both loads to see if I can improve but must keep in mine this is a factory rifle not a bench gun.

That Sako brass will last a very long time. I’ve have a Sako sporter 6PPC repeater and have shot it a lot, great rifles. I’ve only used Sako brass in both it and its twin in 22 PPC, they aren’t max loads but they aren’t wimpy either. Some of the brass has over 20 firings on it.

As far has forming and using 6.5 Grendel brass I have no experience but I would assume there are good reasons people form using 220 russian Lapua brass. Half of these 6PPC guys are more mad scientist than reloader, hopefully they chime in.
A friend of mine is a shooter and one of the most knowledgable fire-arms guys I've ever met. He told me that with the exception of an occasional split neck he can typically reload a cartridge up to 50 times. Knowing him as I have for over 48 years I have no reason not to believe him~!
