Browning BAR 22 LR

So I was talking to my dad last night and he said he was thinking about selling his BAR 22. I told him if you ever sell that, I want it! I learned to shoot at 4 years old with it. After some talking, he said well I'll make ya a deal. I'll sell it to you for what I paid for it in back in 1988, $200. I said sold haha. It needs a good cleaning. The last time I took it out a few years ago, it was jamming up with some cheap bulk Remington ammo. So it definitely needs a good cleaning. I doubt it's ever been taken apart and fully cleaned. You don't see very many of these rifles, and matter of fact, I've never known anyone, or seen another around in 40 years. I don't have the rifle yet, so no pictures, but it's in pretty good condition. He rarely shot it and it just sits in his safe. I'm pretty excited about it. I'm not sure exactly what its worth, but it means more to me than it would anyone else at this point.

Give it a good cleaning and take it out to, a 50 yd range with, Several types of, Ammo and SEE What,...
she,.. Likes !
Saldy, Federal Auto-Match ammo, shot Well for Me BUT is, Soft Lead and you gotta, Clean rifle,.. OFTEN !
Sometimes I run across "Good Lots" of 38 grain, HP, Copper plated, Winchester that shoots well ( My usual, Sage Rat & Rabbit, Bullet ! )
Standard Plus and Wolf Match Extra, shot Great & is, consistantly,.. "Accurate".
Have Fun,.. Testing

Well I picked up the rifle today and snapped a couple photos. Just as I remember it! He even has the original manual. Overall pretty good shape. I would guess 85% Going to have to try and muster up the courage to take it apart and give it a good cleaning. Then I'll see about putting a spare Burris 4-14x and see how it shoots.

Until this thread was posted, I'd never seen nor heard of this Browning rifle. Now when I find one listed for sale, the prices are insane - makes me wonder how long they were in production and how many were made...

From what I understand, they were only made from 77'-85' But I could be wrong on that. I've always loved the rifle and the feel of it. Not your typical cheap 10/22, marlin, or savage 22 anyway. I've never seen or heard of another one around my area either. My dad was always Browning fan. He had several BAR MKII Safaris over the years and hunted with his BAR 270 for the majority of his 20s and 30s. For some reason he isn't attached to this rifle any and wants a Ruger 10/22. So I'm going to go pick one up and give it to him. Dang ol Ruger 10/22s are $300 these days, crazy!

I never knew these BAR 22s were worth that kind of money. I just figured it'd be like every other 22 out there, maybe worth a few hundred or so. Like I said before though, not about the money. It's about my earliest memory shooting with my pops at a mud bank with the old BAR 22 and watching the mud fly at 4 years old!!

I'll try and get some better pictures later this evening.

These were made in two versions; tube magazine like this and and clip fed version. Owned both and much prefer the tube fed.
