Box Stands for Deer Hunting

She told me she was in estrus this evening.
I had to laugh. I took a girl who lived in LA used to wearing Gucci n Pradda, to camo n shitkickers!

Well don’t shoot the first one that gets after her, let her run around for awhile and see what comes out!

Now that's funny right there!!!
I had a picture in my mind of her being chased.
She told me I was disgusting when I informed her while elk hunting if you find fresh urine and droppings to rub the urine on your pants or hat it helps you get close.

We sure have improved our stands in the last 40 years, from that Baker ( death trap ) to this. Can shoot out to 1200 yards. Notice my first kill, a groundhog on the steps. This stand is 6x8. We also built several that are 6x6 and can be moved with the loader tractor.IMG_0656.jpg IMG_0708.jpg

Put in the time yesterday to finish all the glass tracks and install another 2 window sets. Should pick up last set on Friday and button up this rig just in time for the rut!! Cut all the lanes Sunday and it’s ready for some killing. 35435B97-12B9-4289-A0D2-9469260AC45E.jpeg

The devil is in the details so knowing this I have shelving, bow hook, rifle holder, new heater and tanks all ready for installation. Didn’t think I’d get there in time but It’s coming together now. Every installation endeavor has to be planned around battery life of the drill so I plan accordingly.

Pick up a cheap power inverter and hook it to your car battery. Best $$ I ever spent for keeping things charged when I'm not near 110V power.

Me and the drill seem to have the same battery life. Lol. I’m hunting other stands and installing so it’s not a problem with today’s lithium batteries. This little black and decker has amazing power and light. That little drill will outlast my $350 hitachi with 2 batteries and weights less than half. I think I got it on sale for around $60

Out on the smaller boats we use a 5 gallon bucket with tight fitting lid for the big job

Don’t miss!
The deer or the doniker?
As for deer we saw 44 does in 2 half days of hunting. 0 bucks to include spikes, and their not legal. Has to have at least 1 forked horn here. Rifle season ends Friday.
The animals get a break for a week then archery picks back up.

I just got in from the clover field, it’s working good but can only hunt certain winds there. They won’t let me out of the stand when it gets dark, I’m surrounded! Kopu 2 is the best I’ve found.

Oh yeah, had a eagle fly right by the stand tonight! Also got in a standoff with a big skunk trying go through a bottle neck on the way out, he won!

Saw our first rub last Saturday.
Saw a few more locally, including 1 on the back of our property.
Neighbors shot a 2x3 out back while we were gone last week

I've got a portable potty and plenty of room to keep it in the shack. Just not sure I'd ever need it. No plans on hunting in ot more than 3-4 hours at a time. It's not my main hunting location but rather just my winter hut for muzzleloader and late archery (crossbow) sits. Porta potty is a pretty practical answer for that issue.

I like this 6 x 7 size for hunting alone, can reach everything from center with room for gear.
Been thinking about that emergency container, could mount it under a shelf like a fire extinguisher with spare underwear. Wait a minute, a foot stool pooper!! Screw all of that, I’m getting out of the stand. I always hunt hungry and have a saying for that...Hungry wolves hunt the best!

Edit: just set my first hunt tonight, it’s a good spot! 6 does, going back in the morning.
Another edit: wow rough morning, rain and strong wind. Nothing moving but leaves flying sideways. Stand held up well with no crazy noises from the trees moving. I bolted the bottom of the ladder to a heavy oak board and this allows it to move around without sinking, very important for attaching to trees- something has to give or the trees will destroy a stand.
It takes a full year for the deer to get used to a new stand so I’m on the move.
