I have a gun barrel that has been regularly used for 52 years. Thought it would be a good idea to get it borescoped. Went to a reputable gunsmith here in central Texas and he explained in great detail what would be done. OK, let's do it! He had me purchase a bore solvent called Gavilyte-G. I was instructed to administer the solvent 16 hours before scoping, kinda like you do with Wipe Out( which would be a more fitting name for this stuff-it removed carbon fouling, copper fouling, powder fouling and possibly a tonsil). The following morning I go to the doctor......I mean the gunsmith's shop. He tells me I should be asleep while he bore scopes the barrel. Seemed odd but I never pass on a chance for a nap. When I awoke the gastro intestinal...I mean the doct... Damn it, THE gunsmith said the barrel was in great shape given it's age and an estimated round count over 19,000 rounds ( I never thought about keeping a log book on this particular gun so round count might be low). He said rifling looked good and the bore was relatively shiny. I was then instructed not to run any hot or high pressure loads. Was also told that with proper use and care would not need borescoping for 5 years. Two thumbs up and a grin!
