Betcha never dun that.. Dumass move.

With me it was the saga of the accursed 17 Rem. I was going to load for a friend of a friend. First my friend polished 100 virgin cases along with 40 once fired cases. The drain plug on his polisher bowl unscrewed and emptied all the corn cob on his bench.

Now its my turn. As a matter of course I resize virgin cartridge cases. The 100 virgin cases are mixed with 40 once fired. So I lay ten cases on the RCBS Lube Pad and roll them and start sizing. Checking my progress I hold a case that has what a appears to be a lube dent in the shoulder. So I removed the sizing die and ckecked it thinking that maybe to much lube had found its way inside the die. Next I checked the die lube bleed/vent hole which is clear, reinstall the sizing die and run another case through it. Case looks good, then I find another with again what looks like a lube dent in the shoulder. Upon closer inspection I notice small tick mark in center of the dent. Then I looked at the rest of un-resized fired case and see every one has a dent with a small tick mark in the center. I called my friend to ask what type of firearm they were shot out of and am told an AR. That explained the dents in cases shoulders.

But wait the saga continues. My friend supplied me with a box of 17 cal. hollow point bullets from a famous brand. Upon opening the box I found that every bullet’s hollow point was clogged with fine ground walnut polishing media that is so packed I couldn’t dig any of it out. The bullet’s weights were from 20.2-20.7 grains. Three weeks latter I’m still waiting for them to be replaced.

I decided to make an AR barrel out of a bolt gun barrel one day.So I chucked it up and turned it down got all the tooling marks out and hit my mark on the diameters. Now I'm ready to crown and chamber feeling very proud of myself only to discover the .22 caliber range rod didn't touch a side wall. I grabbed a 6mm barrel instead of a .22 !

These days we have a lot on our minds. I was resizing some brass yesterday and after screwing the die in 3 more times the headspace was still coming up short. duh... but hey, the scrap pile is doing well.

I know of a guy (cough...cough) who did that. Cleaned up the powder and dumped it back in...with the gate still open.

Yessir, guilty as charged.....to the last period. I made up acouple of new names for myself. I just wish it were the only dumbazz move I have to tell.

Now that was some of the best / funny reading I have found on this site in a while....unfortunately I was relating to several of the stories.

i could write posts to this thread all day. After 35years of shooting/loading/competition... I've made a lot of mistakes. 2 is enough....:-)

I pick up range brass; and thanks to Dad's training, I clean and sort all 9mm luger brass, as it turns out we've got some locals who trim 9mm luger for their 9x18 makarov.

On the RCBS chargemasters, I hope everyone knows powder sticks in the far end beyond the opening. It's worse with heavy stick powders. Why RCBS doesn't cap off the tube at the opening is beyond me.

Have any of you been fishing in a gator infested lake(Gatoon lake in Panama/Caimen technically not gators) get done and have the local Kuna Indian fillet your fish. He then throws the carcass off the dock and into the water. While watching him you decide to dive off the dock and swim out a ways. Then while enjoying life notice an otter swim pass by you like he has a better place to be and dart up under the dock. It is at that moment you remember there is a 12 footer that cleans up those scraps every day. At that point I imitate Mark Spitz and swim back to the dock.

On the bear story... I was a few feet from the dumpster and there little bear poke his noggin out and we looked at each other. I turned to look at the other MP(Ken Cotes-who was remaining safely in his vehicle.) the bear darted to a near by tree and climbed to about shoulder height and stopped. I then walked slowly to him. Again I don’t have much fear in me because that would require a modicum of intelligence. I then stick my hand out to pet said bear. As my hand nears the bear the other MP lets out a roar on his PA system and I glance his way and the bear being the skater one of us chooses that moment to scamper up the tree.

Just FYI I used to scuba dive too. Lol
Lake Gatun? Yep. Lived in Gamboa. Snorkeling in the weeds was always fun. Cayman, snakes and assorted prehistoric looking fish could get your attention. There's a lot of neat stuff on the bottom of that lake.

Just FYI... Never put a boa in the trunk of a Toyota.. Yes Gatun.. I forgot the spelling. lol.. I did my diving for the most part on the Atlantic side.. Ft Sherman and Portobelo..

...and so was born a new 6x45 AR!!!!! :) :) :)

Yeah and with ball powder no less. BTDT.
How’d you guess, of course it was ball powder!

Took the case out of the press shell holder and noticed little granules on the shell holder, if that wasn’t enough to spike my concern, as I was putting the case back into the block (spilling powder along the way), I still had my mind on the powder around the shell holder. “Huh, wonder where that powder came from...” I’m sure the International Space Station saw the light go on, when I said “Ah..$hit, you‘ve got to be kidding me”.

Looking back at the 10 already loaded, they were standing in the block as crooked as soldiers trying to stand at attention during the first mornings inspection, still drunk from the night before.
