Stand on the scale holding the rifle.
Note weight.
Put down rifle.
Step on scale.
Note weight.
Do math.
I agree, and will say that you can buy a very accurate scale for very little money nowadays. That said, in our sport, a decent parts counting scale is as handy as toilet paper, for weighing bullets etc. Watch ebay...I see them for around $100 occasionally.Any postal type scale that you can pick-up for about 30 bucks will work. I picked up an Accuteck W-8250 that weighs up to 50lbs for that price. I own ten Bench rifles and I'm always swapping scopes, barrels, ect., so I need one.
When I weighed my FTR rifle it wasn't close to max so I didn't check the accuracy.Your bathroom scale goes down to ounces, accurately?

However, after reading your post, out of curiosity I just checked it;
me, +/ - a 2.5 oz candy bar (only known weight object handy) tilts the arm about 1/8 bubble. The 4 oz hashmarks on the balance are about 3/32" apart. So it is possible to adjust for the weight of the candy bar.

They used to use one like this for FCNC in years past. Not sure what they are using now. Mine works pretty well![]()

Whats the best way to weigh a rifle to check to see if itd make weight for F-open or FTR?
Put the bipod on and weight it by hanging from a scale???
Bathroom scales kind of hard to use because you gotta hold the rifle upright which messes with the numbers...
