Best VALUE in a high powered riflescope?

Best value to Me means Best Warranty.

That means Golden Eagle for Me. The Vortex Folks are great.
Has there ever been an issue with sightron warranty department?...
I have never had a problem with any of my sightron's to make me contact their warranty and customer service.. sightron's don't usually have problems like Vortex".

When I was looking for a better scope I couldn't find a GE anywhere, so I went with the Strike Eagle 5-25-x56. I can see the rings, the X and numbers at 500 yards

Well, I live in Wisconsin and Vortex is 34 min drive from me. I know a warranty is a warranty and there all good but I don't need to mail my scope away if I have a problem with it. Just a 35 min drive and I have a new one if I need it.

After testing many of the premium scopes, I have a list of the best values. Of course, the type of shooting that one does dictates his choice. I shoot 300 and 600 yard competitions and dollar for dollar, these may be the best values. (I am not saying they are the best scope). Fixed power - Sightron 45x45 ED, Valdada 40X, Nightforce 42X, and March 40X. In the variables, I like the Sightron 10-50X, the Vortex Golden Eagle, the Leupold 7-35X. There is one that's getting a great deal of attention, but I have not been able to get my hands on one ...It is the Delta Optical 5x-50x HD. What do you consider best buys on the market today?
I agree with you completely on the Sightron 45X45 SIII ED, totally amazing scope for the money. I also agree with you on the Vortex GE, again a great value, yes, it gets dark much above 45X, but still a truly good value. I would add the Sightron SIII 8-32X56, for a scope in the $800 range it is seriously good!

James, as you mentioned, what one considers a great value might depend on the shooting Discipline that one is involved in.

As you know, my primary game is Short Range Group and Score. The single most important feature that is a MUST for those Disciplines is a scopes ability to hold point of impact shot after shot.

This generally holds true for 100 and 200 yards.

At this years Tack Drive, (300 meters), I mounted a Nightforce 15x55 variable that has proven to be a great scope. However, when the sun finally came out Sunday for the final two matches, I could not see my 6mm bullet holes and could barely make out any lines on the target due to the horrendous mirage.

Granted, my eyes are in bad shape, but not that bad.

Bart was using one of the big Valdada variables. I did not get to look through it, but Bart swore he could see well enough to make out the lines and see his bullet holes. This is a $3800 scope.

So for next year, I will have to make a decision as to “value”. Am I going to make the best bullet I can, get the rifle shooting at a competitive level, and drive 19 hours only with the hope the horrible mirage stays at home.

Or bite the bullet, (pun intended), and spend the $3800+ dollars for a scope that I I’ll use at one match, since it is too heavy at 4 pounds to mount and make weight on any other rifle I shoot the rest of the year.
Wow. I thought I was the only one trying to figure out what to do with that extra weight. :)

Do you have or did you ever shoot much with the Valdada 40x? They're very good IME. And if Bart said he could see holes and rings at 300 and he was using a Valdada.... I'd believe it. JME. WD

Bart was using the new 10x-60x Valdada with 40 mm tube. It is similar to the Terminator but has side parallax adjustment rather than being on the tube like the Terminator. I have seen the 40x Valdada and it is a great scope. Many use it in short range BR. Good shooting...James
