Sightron joins the elite scope class.

Anyone else have any experience with these on a scope checker? So far, we are 2 for 2 on this thread.

With their new SV ED 10X-50X, Sightron is joining the elite premium scopes. I have shot their SIII in 10x-50X for several years and while this scope represents one of the best values in high powered scopes, many shooters are willing to pay for superb optics. The lens in these optics need to have the extra low dispersion (ED) glass and the new Sightron has this type glass. There are other premium features of this new scope including locking turrets, 7-layer coating, 34 mm main tube, and Exac-trac (a proprietary method of insuring that the scope holds zero), and a parallax focus that features a double knob for coarse and fine adjustments.. This scope is expensive (~$2200) but many shooters are willing to pay a premium price for a premium product. I will be receiving one of these scopes for testing this next week and I will relay my impressions to this forum. Good shooting....James Mock
I just learned from Sightron that they did not have the above scope in stock and they are awaiting a new shipment. However they offered to send me a 45X x 45mm ED model for testing....which I quickly accepted in order to evaluate their ED glass. This scope is aimed at the Benchrest crowd that need a lightweight scope. This model is just over 20 oz. and is made on a 30mm tube rather than the 34 found on the svss ED model. I am looking forward to testing this new scope. James

I've had the 45x45 on my 22lr for about six months now, I'm very happy with it! This is the best scope I've owned thus far so, with not having any experience with high end scopes please let me know your thoughts as compared to other scopes you've used.

I have (4 ) of the first 10-50x60 scopes.
Love the scope. Only thing I am disappointed on is the yardage dial.
Why not put the yardage numbers on the dial . Very poor set up with what they have now. Marty

They don't put them on there because the way the optics work, they wind up not being very precise. You need to look through the scope while you're taking parallax out anyhow, so the marks aren't terribly useful.

Agreed! I’ve only had a couple of AO or side focus scopes (of MANY over the years) that were parallax-free at ranges indicated on marked dials.

Look forward to your report.

I got the new 45x45 ED mounted on my BAT 6mm BRA today and began testing of this scope. I shot three rounds to get it zeroed and to foul the barrel. Then I shot the "square". Most of you are familiar with this procedure where there are 5 shots with adjustments between while using the same aim point. I shot number one on an old (clean) target that was already on my friend's backstop. I next moved up 40 clicks (4 MOA on this scope), fired #2; moved 40 clicks
right, fired #3, 40 clicks down...#4; 40 clicks left...#5. Eureka ! Number 5 went through the same hole as number one. I am excited to further test this scope. I had to stop shooting today because the corn farmers were getting their combines ready to harvest more corn. I will shoot some 300 yard targets tomorrow. Shoot 'em small....James

We have to have First Focal Plane. Most use MILs, some use MOA, but the concept works on either. Usually a 5-25x (or similar) and finely graduated reticles, often with holdovers for elevation and wind. These may look very busy to you guys, but it's what most of us prefer. Check out below. 2/10ths Mil graduations and what we call a "Christmas Tree" Reticle.

Thats the FFP reticle I prefer only in MOA. I think I must have taken to much shop class in high school, inches on the tape measure are burned into my brain. Its actually a nice simple reticle to use.
