Best solvent for Varget?

I have tried many different chemicals & solvents and none, zero zip, zilch, nada remove hard carbon. Visually inspecting before and after with a borescope.

Elbow grease + brush or abrasive will remove it.

Varget is dirtier than say IMR4064 but I did not think it was that bad loading it in my 308, I just follow my regular cleaning routine with no additional time or steps required.

Another thing is one mans "my barrel is clean" is another mans "Jesus is that filthy" and
then you have the "I only clean my barrel when accuracy falls off" guy.

Because I shot out 9 .308 barrels in matches and practice with an average of 8000 rounds on each and 3 on another and never had a problem. Sorry if that doesn't flow with your usual generic all knowing answers you like to throw in posts but just because it can doesn't mean it does and Butch's does clean the barrels just fine.

Waiting for your generic all knowing quip back at me.
Just love it!

Experience does matter, doesn't it. :)

Ok. Where do you get this stuff from?
Carb out is made by the same people that make wipeout. Use PPE, because I’ve been told it’s dangerous.

I clean every 50-100 rounds with a 6.5x47 and I’d do a normal cleaning with bronze brushing with carb out, followed by a normal cleaning with bronze brushing with wipeout liquid.

This would not leave a speck behind.

I’ve since stopped using Varget altogether and clean with wipeout and accelerator and a bronze brush.

I have seen barrels that I thought were beyond repair cleaned with Butch’s and a bronze brush though. I just can’t stand the smell so I’m willing to make a few more strokes.

Slightly off topic…I see the same hard carbon problem with H4350 and the solution is bronze brush or abrasives used with your favorite solutions.

Now one knows what they don't know. Add that to your list since it appears you're keeping score.

I have found FreeAll to loosen carbon with time, a soak.. I use it on my Glock barrels switch out, plunk it a tube full of FReeAll it removes the carbon in a couple days...I waste a lot of ammo in the G19

Evinrude Johnson Engine Tuner

Got a skull and crossbones on it so you know it is good! I guess similar two cycle decarb tuner sprays would work in the same way. JB or Iosso if things are really bad.

Yeah you like to throw that one around in the lapping post also. Need to get some new ones and watch who you toss them at as some of use know what we know.
Do whatever works for you. I certainly don't care. Butch's does not remove hard carbon. I know this to be fact. If that doesn't effect your shooting then it's obviously nothing for you to worry about.
