best die LOCKING ring

I may not be swimming in the same direction as most of the fishes here, but I like the Lee rings. After reading several tips advising to install an o ring under the lock nut, I gave the Lee’s a try and found they work quite well. An additional advantage for me is I can tighten them down without a wrench or tool and they stay put.

Not very suprising that most see a slight improvement in concentricity when using a O ring.
Using 2-700 dollars on a nicely machined die, a good few hundred grams of metal.

And then mate it to a 3-5 kgs of metal made for 50$ in china, from several different alloys, that has mating surfaces, and a few very critical tolerances for alignment, and then one wonders why concentricity is'nt as it should be? go figure..

I just use Lee rings with a witness mark on the die. The die self centers/locates. There is no skewing that a biased thread in the ring can create. With the "o" the die locates on its own thread, of course you need to have faith that the die and its thread and the press threads are concentric.

Don’t a o ring just preloaded the threads
If the press ram is off center a o ring would do not to correct it as soon as the pressure on the die the treads align and the ram will still be off center
I think most all presses are bored by one piece reamers then threaded with a ram diameter tap body. That typically enables the die thread center well in line with the ram. Check some in stores to see how loose fit some are.

Most shell holders have enough clearance to case head diameters to allow for any die-shellholder misalignment. And few press rams' top end have zero slop anyway from use and poor maintenance. Measure yours.

Frequent disassembly, clean then lube of ram and press contact areas keeps slop minimized.
