This is why i asked the question223] and 17/221 Fireball as well as the bolt face
Are you sure that you want it to be a 700 clone, or even a real 700, for that matter? I have a 700 that was sold by Remington as a true 17 Fireball and I am not really impressed by a short action set up for a Fireball. I really think some smaller action would be better.I am starting a couple builds. I already have my barrels and reamers. As far as actions go the 17 FB will be a repeater and 20 VT a single shot. I want my actions to be a Rem 700 clone. What ones would you choose and why?? Added both of these setups will be prairie dog/ ground squirrel guns. They will be used in the field.
I like Jim Bordens stuff. Tommy McI am starting a couple builds. I already have my barrels and reamers. As far as actions go the 17 FB will be a repeater and 20 VT a single shot. Listen to this advice! The absolute Rolls Royce action for either of those calibers is the Sako L461 action.
The difference in the bolt face is the location of the extractor. Looking at the bolt face, the extractor for the 223 is @ 11:00 and for the Fireball it's at 9:30. The reason for this was to aid in extraction since the 221 FB case is so short. What is the difference in the boltface?
I know the extractor location is different ive got both, but when people refer to differences in boltface its the size of the bolt faceThe difference in the bolt face is the location of the extractor. A 223 bolt will work but the extractor location tends to push the case upward into the action. If your shooting single shot its a non event but Remington 700's in 221 FB and 17 FB were repeaters. The action is slightly different too regarding the bullet guide area.
You can google it and search the images and you should be able to find them so you can take a look.
When you talk of guide area are you talking follower or feed ramp? The action is slightly different too regarding the bullet guide area.
Dimension size wise, they Remington 700 bolt faces are the same. But the location of the ejector is located differently for the Fireball for functional purposes and that makes it different in my view which is why I brought it up.I know the extractor location is different ive got both, but when people refer to differences in boltface its the size of the bolt face
I have a 20 VT on a BAT SV and love it.I am starting a couple builds. I already have my barrels and reamers. As far as actions go the 17 FB will be a repeater and 20 VT a single shot.
