Best cal. for Encore pistol

You said Encore, so you are OK with almost anything. You can use a Contender for the 7 Waters or anything on the 223 case, be careful with the 225 case, you can run into pressure problems. IMHO the Contender is easier to get a good trigger.

Ordered a 6.5x47 with brake, can't wait to get it (encore)

Agree that the 357 Maximum would be interesting as deer cartridge for 200 yds and under.

Also, take a good look at the 6.5 Grendel. It works well in my Encore. It will reach further with bullets that work extraordinarily well on your preferred class of game

I’m interested in your statement.
I have two 14 in Contender barrels in 6.5 JDJ and 257 JDJ and never had any pressure issues. Also have 17 in 257 JDJ barrel and 100 gr Nosler does 2650 FPS

I think the 6.8spc would be excellent. It was originally developed for 14" barrels and with my 16" AR I use a 200 yard zero for essentially point and shoot anything inside of 250 yards.

You can run into pressure problems with any cartridge. When working with a explosive of any type pressure is a factor you must consider and watch. In reloading when you get upwards of maximum loads, it is something you must really be aware of, no matter the case or caliber.

What Bill K said. Bowers Contender wildcats were based on the 307 case, you sure can get pressure problems using fast powder. Same with the 225 case. The best thing is to take the taper out of the case by AI-ing it. David White did some expermenting with this. Seems like 45,000 psi is the limit for the contender. "if the barrel doesn't fall open, it's time to look for pressure"

Jay, I will just keep my pie hole shut, ;-). I am pretty sure we both agree where this could go. Some of the comments are:rolleyes:.... you and I have flung a “few” rounds down range out of an SP or two.
