Best Bolt Grease?

I use the stuff that Brownells puts their name on, in the white plastic tub (4 oz or so?).

Probably needed something to round out an order for shipping, and grabbed it years ago.

I take a small dab on the wooden end of a cleaning swab and stick it on the lugs.

Been using it for about 15 years, and from the size of the dent I've made in the jar, I imagine I'll still be on the same tub when I die.

A dozen other things would work just as well. It ain't rocket science.

Mobil 1 is my choice . Sure works in race cars never had a bearing problem . Even when the rotors melted off. Larry

I use......Phil Tenacious Oil....After applying wipe off any excess....used by Tour De-France riders. 4oz should last for ever. Amazon has it. Worth a try.....Cool Name..

That's my point.

While I'm sure it works well (as do many other choices), bearings and bolt lugs aren't necessarily a direct comparison.

I have never run a rifle bolt as hot as wheel bearings. o_O
There both surfaces that work under pressure without lube they will gauld or fail . $10.00 will get you and your friends lube for life.Larry

I've had a little jar of STOS from P-W for 20 years. Great for bolts and the lugs on O/U shotguns. Probably will last another 20 years. Slicker Than Owl Shiz works for me.

I use use birchwood casey moly choke tube lube , I'm sure it might not be the best but it is sure convenient! Just thought i would find out if anyone is using it, RW

Considering the amount of friction and temperature that it is likely to be subjected to, lubricating a rifle bolt is probably the easiest test you could put any grease through. I am confident that literally any sort of grease would work just fine for this application. Heck, bacon grease would probably do the trick, and you'd get a nice breakfast smell as the rifle heated up.

Wheel bearing lube is made to coat a surface. Without being wiped off with movement and to withstand extreme pressure syncethic even stands more pressure. It is made to apply to very smooth surfaces with ease. Larry

Yep, great stuff for lubing bicycle chains (where I first ran across it) and even some parts for rifles. Never used it for bolt gun bolts - bodies or lugs - but did try it on AR bolt lugs / barrel extensions where it works really well. Almost too well, the tenacious part of its name I infer was added to describe it's downright sticky nature.

Blue goop is also something i`m familiar with on my water jet.

This stuff is great, BUT it acts just like anti seize, if you have a smear of it somewhere it will get EVERYWHERE.......LOL...

Phil.
EVERYWHERE! I use rubber gloves and a q tip to applicator it.
