Best Bolt Grease?

Been contemplating a change in the bolt grease department. I figure this will be all over the place but curious what the "Top Guns" are currently using.

I use TM in the syringe but I actually don't know if you're going to get any kind of quorum on the subject.

I've been using Mil-comm's TW25B for several years now. Like it a lot.

Starting out I bought a couple of their small closable syringes. When those ran low I bought their 4 oz tube (linked above) for refilling the smaller applicators that live in my range and cleaning kits.

Well said..especially the quorum part.o_O. LOl!
I think we are extremely anal in trying to use what is absolutely best for a less than demanding application..at least where this is concerned. No harm in trying to use the best available, but I think if we pick a lube with good shear and lubricity qualities, it'll more than suffice. Products marketed as press lubes and cam lubes come to mind. Both applications far and away exceed what we NEED in this application, IMHO.

I've been using a product called Gel Lube, sold by Goodson, for several years now. It's a red aerosol spray that goes on wet but almost instantly turns to a gel that is extremely hard to wipe off and is slick as owl $h1#. I've not had any problems since going to it. It's about $20 a can but lasts for years and years..and I use in in other applications as well as on customer's guns, so a can may last the average shooter who only uses it as a bolt lube for many, many years. Federal Mogul cam lube would be an excellent choice too, IMHO. We're a small market and I don't expect anyone to manufacture a product that has been through all of the engineering and R&D to fill this tiny need, although, a few have re-labled some as such. I'd be very surprised if any of them were specifically formulated for such a small market, when readily available products that exceed the requirements are already there. Just do some research and use some common sense and you should be fine with any number of different products. Even a tube of moly based tube grease would be a great choice...just not convenient to use and keep up with. It'd be a mess in my range box in short order.

I have used most of the popular ones, and there is not a lot of significant differences, IMO. The important part is to be sure to use some type to prevent galling, especially for fire forming & hard jam. FWIW, I am presently using mil-com tw 25b, and am happy with it in colder temps.

I'll agree with Jack. I've used a bunch of different greases for the lugs. Can't tell the difference between any of them. I don't think there is a best grease per say. I use blue goo for my lugs and I find that Motorkote Hyper Lube works great on the bolt itself, now that stuff is slicker than owl sht Mr. Ezell. Just bustin ya Mike!

I've tried a few. The best I've used is Lithium. Grabbed a tube soap from the tackle box and it worked better than anything for me so far other than Melonite.

Anything that is synthetic and low/high operating temperature range compatible with our application will work well.

I use STOS by Ponsness Warren.

Aero Shell # 33 with Moly.

Very wide temperature range.

Was given a 14 oz. cartridge by a Rotorhead decades ago.

A little goes a very long way.

"Sky Geek" carries it.

Regards and Happy New Year,

Steve
