Best barrel

I have often wondered what is the best method to install an aftermarket barrel. Pressed and pined, threaded or Loctite. The Shilen barrel in my 1808 is held in with Loctite.

I've had very good results with shilen select match 22rf barrels CZ452 action I shoot them in the ARA 50yds matches

As long as the blank will allow. 24" would be the shortest I would do and 25 or longer is better imo. The most ammo insensitive bbl I've had was a 27" Lilja tight bore on an Annie 2013 with a Fudd tuner. I never had a lot of ammo that wouldn't shoot well with just a bit of tuner tinkering. This includes Eley 10X, Match and Lapua Center X.

One of my Halls has an .850 Hart that is 25.5". It does good with Eley and sucks with Center X. The other Hall has a Benchmark 3 groove 15.5 twist with a very tight bore. Slugging is difficult. It shoots great with Center X. This is a sporter contour 21.5" that came with the gun. I cut off the dog knot and redid the crown and added an RVA tuner.

I have come to the conclusion that if you want to use Lapua Center X you need a TIGHT bore.

I certainly make no claim as to being a benchrest shooter..... Lilja Barrel on a 54 Anschutz Biathlon action

Lapua Center X out of my Hunter class Silhouette rifle today.

Built by Evelio McDonald out of Houston. Got the rifle yesterday. This was the first actual try for a "real" group after about 25-30 rounds at 25 and then 100 for the sight in. 24x Weaver in the wind of Corpus Christi...

:'( ahhh... No....

I have about a 2 animal wobble....LOL.. at 100, on a good day.... I can generally do about 6-8 inches.... :-\

I shoot prone with an Annie 2013, I used the stock barrel for a few months and then got a smoking deal on a Liljia drop in barrel.(I know you have a different action) the groups went from about 1/2in. to a single hole at 100yds. I just bought a Benchmark 2 groove 20in long. I hope it shoots the same as the Liljia. R/ Mike

Muller Works MI barrels are one best if not the best rimfire barrel out, IF you can find one. Southern Precision Rifles stocks them, I'm sure there's a waiting list to get one but they're worth the wait... also KSS handles them . They sell out as quick as they get them and for a good reason.

Don't push rimfires at all.

I just finished a 52D/International rebuild and have done a little shooting and velocity testing with barrel lengths.

First time out with it about a week ago. Put 30 rounds thru it. After a quick zero on the scope and the gun and scope and ammo tracked perfectly. My last two groups at 50 yards measured a .103" and a .114". Took my last 5 rounds of ammo and put some elevation up on the scope (little to much and was going off of memory on the come ups) and shot this one 5 round group at a 114 yards. No break in etc....ammo was RWS R50. Didn't sort the ammo etc... Finish length on the barrel is 22".

Gain twist rifling, 16.25 to 16 twist. 8 groove, left hand twist. Mimics Popes rifling. My spec. match chamber. The barrel is c.m. steel. Eventually will get blued. I bedded the stock and made a 52E style recoil lug for the receiver. The contour of the barrel is a modified palma contour.
