Benchrest scopes

I've been looking over the past few month at a scope for over 100 and 200 yard br.
Just have one question about most of them: seem all of them have the fch reticle. Is that pretty much the norm?

Fine reticles and fine reticles with a tiny dot are the norm.

For example, the Sightron SIII has a 1/10 moa dot and .01 moa crosshair. It also has 1/10 moa clicks and only 5 moa per revolution.

I have a Sightron SIII 10-50X60 LRTD.
Fine reticle with small dot in center. 1/8 MOA clicks.
I like the variable because i can change magnification on a bad mirage day.

And you can usually pick up a good used one under $1,000.

For short range BR, I would choose a fixed power scope. I have tested many and would recommend one of these: Valdada 40X BR, NF 42X, Sightron 45 ED, March 40X. These are light enough and all have great optics and tracking.
I'm looking at the sightron because I still have other things I need to buy..
I looked through a athlon 10x40 with fine cross hair and could barely see it. I know the glass in the sightron is way better than the athlon so hopefully it will do well for me

The weight is the issue with this scope .. got to be around 22oz

They must be selling pretty good because they can’t seem to keep them in stock. I had mine on order for over a month.

I've tried lots of times to shoot a crosshair with a dot and just don't care for them. I prefer a crosshair and center hold, BUT not a fine one. I'm not getting any younger and struggling with Cataracts, I don't want to search for fine crosshairs in heavy mirage, would rather have them a bit heavier as I find it faster to acquire and
easier to hold off with. Something like the 1st issue black Leupold 36 in size. Currently I'm using a 45 power Leupold, the 42 power Nightforce, and on my Rail, the 36 power Leupold I started with 33 years ago.

I don't care for dots. Might as well get a crosshair that thick.

Hard to argue with a NF FCR-1 reticle, but it is only .016 moa thick. An ATACR with an MOAR-T, which is .05 moa thick, is very nice, too, and it can be illuminated if the match drags into late evening low light.

You better have the diopter set perfect for your eye if you get a thin reticle, or you won't be able to see it.
