Thoughts on a Fixed Power Target Scope

I've used nothing but Leupold and Weaver fixed power scopes on my varmint rigs. The Weavers are T24 and T36 while the Leupold is 24. Mirage isn't much of a problem in Ohio unless I'm hunting on railroad tracks.

I have had no problems with my March 48 fixed at any range regardless of the intensity of the mirage.

I'm looking for a fixed power scope for shooting 300 yards and less. I see that some 100/200 yard benchrest shooters are using 50x. Are these power scopes usable at 300 yards with heavy mirage?

Absolutely not. My Leupold 45x comp was useless when mirage kicked up... at 100 yards. 300 will be a solid no-go.

My Vortex Golden Eagle gets turned down to 20 or so to shoot through the soup at 300 yards and I won't buy a fixed power again. Only reason to is to meet weight for specific classes, otherwise get something more useful!

Sightron has a new Fixed Power 45X. Bob White had one of them at this years Bench Rest Seminar last week.
