Most versatile reticle for March Majesta

What is the most versatile reticle for a March Majesta?
  • 100 yard Airgun Benchrest
  • 100 yard+ 22 Rimfire Benchrest
  • MAYBE some longer than 200 yard centerfire benchrest.
  • 1000 yard steel targets for fun
  • 2000 yard steel targets for frustration
  • MAYBE some day I might try F-Class but nothing serious. Would the MTR-0 work OK for casual F-Class shooting?
I am leaning towards the MTR-W0 or the MTR-W1. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Not interested in any other scope other than the Majesta.

When the Majesta was introduced, the SFP reticles for the other riflescopes would not work in it because the wide-angle view, the jump from 20° to 25° AOV. So March had to recreate the existing reticles and make them fir the much wider FOV. If you look at the existing line-up of MTR reticles, you see from where the new MTR-W reticles originate. The MTR-W0 is essentially the MTR-1 with a few additional hash marks. The MTR-W1 is also from the MTR-1 with a slightly different look and some additional hash marks. The MTR-W2 comes from the MTR-2/MTR-5. The MTR-WFT from from the MTR-FT, but reworked for the larger FOV. The W-DOT come from the DOT reticle, but it is now an etched reticle, rather than the original wired reticle. The MML-W1 is a MIL reticle and comes from the original MML reticle, which has been reworked to fit the wider FOV. The MTR-WFD was specifically designed for the Majesta and is intended primarily for F-Class competition.

I think you are look at the proper reticles for your intended purposes. The MTR-W0 is used by many F-class shooters, mostly in Europe, and lends itself well for other purposes. If the MTR-WFD had not existed, I would have opted for the MTR-W2 for F-class, or perhaps the MTR-W1.

For your stated purposes, I would suggest the MTR-W0 as the most versatile and still suitable for F-class, even non-casual. I do like the look of the MTR-W1, but I have not studied it and I have never seen it in real life, but I'm sure it works fine.

Thanks for the detailed response. I have several scopes with similar reticles to the MTR-W0 and like them fine, but I do like a small floating dot which they don't have and rarely use the 'hold under' tic marks above the center of the reticle, which pushed me towards the MTR-W1.

I have the W1 for the floating dot center.
For 95% of your shooting sounds like it would work for you also.
Honestly I don't notice the hash marks are there while shooting.
Anytime I do hold off, I'm using the dot anyways.
Don't know if your familiar with the NF comp or Vortex GE
Those floating dots are the same size as the Majesta W1
and the W2 is half that.
I do have a March HM with the MTR-2 (same size as the W2)
I don't notice that it's half the size, if that helps.

What type of reticle do you prefer?
The open center dot or a fine crosshair?
Fine dot or a larger one? Thin lines or thicker?
Do you have trouble with seeing any reticles you have now?
That will determine what reticle you would choose.
The Majesta has any one of those.
Denys ( Turbulent Turtle ) used to shoot with the smaller dot but has gone
to the larger one cause it's easier for him to see now.
Something to consider if you notice your eyes (sight) are changing.

What @Ranger188 says is true. I got my first March-X 5-50X56 when I was in my late 50s, back in '11 or so. It came with the MTR-2 reticle, which I loved for F-class. When I turned 64, I realized that I was having problems seeing the reticle and it wasn't getting better. I sent the riflescope to Japan and a month later it came back with the MTR-5 reticle. That made a huge difference. A little while later, I got a March-X 10-60X56HM and it came with the MTR-5 reticle. An awesome piece of optics. When I designed the MTR-WFD reticle I went back to a smaller central dot, but I incorporated some queues around it that drew the eye to it and I'm glad I did because that reticle has allowed a bunch of shooters to be ultra precise and I have no problems seeing it, now that I'm in my 70s. But @Ranger188's point is very valid, and I figure anyone with a screen name of @geezerhood is probably not a spring chicken.
