Beam Ballance Scale Recommendation

Who is Scott Parker?
Scott is a member of this forum (sparker) that specializes in tuning balance beam scales. You can either purchase a tuned scale from him directly or buy one and send it to him to tune. Just keep in mind that you should check with him to ensure, before you buy, whether the scale you will be purchasing is a candidate for tuning.

I purchased a 1960's era Lyman M5 on Ebay and sent it to him to tune - it's now very accurate and very repeatable!

Noted. But what is acceptable error in this class of scale? I mentioned a consistent -0.1 grain error at 50-gr setting. That's fairly small, but if it's repeatable, it seems like the scale could be adjusted to correct that. Yes? Or do the check weights simply disclose any errors, and I'm required to document and factor them in myself?

My first scale was a 505 which has served me well. It wascalibrated with certified weights 35 years ago.
Still. Working well, I currently using charge master and a old lyman M5. I would recommend the older scale and keep them clean. All scales need some form of cover too degate air currents. Good luck.
