Barrel order... Still waiting.

mike rock, like obermeyer, is making barrels for the military. they take precedence over all of us. a friend of mine had the same issue with obermeyer--not bashing him or anything, but there is usually a reason for this. I have a barrel on order from mike rock for .408 chey tac--6-8 months is the quoted time

Without knowing all the particulars on any specific barrel or barrel order I will say this. Rock Creek has people that do nothing but cut rifled barrels and people that do nothing but the military barrels. Unless they use the barrel stock out of the same pile, I don't see why the military operation should impact the cut rifled operation.

Oh you don't say. If you had a 50% increase in orders, it wouldn't affect anything?

Butch, Kinda sounds like you are looking for a reason for them to do business this way, just an observation and reading between the lines.

It doesn't or shouldn't make a difference if there barrel orders have gone up 50%, which I doubt very much. But assume they have, does that give them the excuse to just flat out lie?
Promising a barrel in X amount of time and then taking 4 or 5 times as long is just wrong. if there orders have increased to that degree, tell the customer that it is going to take longer to get the damn thing. This is simple stuff folks, this time like most times it's Black or White there are no Grey areas here.

I was going to say that I personally wouldn't shoot a Rock Creek barrel if they gave it to me, but you can't get those either...

Well whatever hombree, You can buy whatever you want. Go back and read my post and post a reply again. I can't vouch for anything they may be telling their clients. You are reading into my post things I have not said.

Bought my first barrel from Bruno's. Had it in stock and I had it a week later. Bruno's had my second in stock but my smith said he could save me some money from another vendor. Got the barrel six weeks later and the wrong contour. All this waiting for and hassle for $25. I should have gone with my gut feeling. I will buy the next one. Later! Frank

OK butchee, Glad I got your approval to spend MY money my way. I didn't say you said anything. Maybe you are the one that needs to go back and read a post. Why does every opinion expressed have to have a pissing contest attached to it?

I waited for 7 months for a 20 cal "Select Match" barrel that never came. After I had waited for several months I called in and asked what would be the expected ETA of a 20 cal barrel in "Select Match"? They gave me an ETA of 12 weeks or so. A few days later I called back and inquired about my order they couldn't really give one because they reported none of the 20's were coming out with "Select Match" criteria.

On one hand I felt I was getting a run-around yet on the other I'm grateful they didn't stamp a match grade as something it wasn't and sending it on to me.

I've always had the greatest respect for Hart barrels. Bought my first in 1995 to re-barrel a shot out 22-250. Since then have bought a total of 12, and with every one I was quoted between 2 to 3 months for delivery. The brown truck was at my driveway in 6 weeks (for the 2 month quotes) and 10 weeks for the last barrel, that was quoted for a 3 month delivery.

It's been my experience with Hart that they will over estimate delivery time: quote 8 weeks and deliver in 6, for example.

Every one of their barrels have been excellent, and when I want a button rifled, it's a Hart I will choose.
A real first class company with customer oriented contact people. ;)

The truth shall set you free.On the same day I ordered a barrel from Rock Creek and was told 4-5 weeks, I also ordered a barrel from Bartlein from Frank Green and was told 14 weeks. These were to be used for BR and were both in 30 caliber and both had a Hunter taper. With no additional calls to either builder, as this was a test, they both arrived on the same day 14 weeks later. This is not to bash Rock Creek, it is posted in praise of Bartlein. I would think I've ordered over 50 barrels from Rock Creek and they all shoot well. They have gone through a lot of changes in the last 2-3 years. They bought Craig Kostyshyn's inventory and equipment. They have lost James Lederer. They aren't the same company they were four years ago. James will be starting his own company.

If you will read my post to you, it read that you can buy whatever barrel that you choose and I have not a clue as to what a barrel company tells their clients. I do not think I said anything about Rock Creek or any other barrel company. Maybe you are the one looking for a pissing contest. I asked if they had a 50% increase in deliveries because of the military, wouldn't it affect them. If they are not truthful about their delivery times, yes it will hurt them. My suggestion was for you to buy where ever you choose if you do not trust their truthfulness.
Is that better or do you still think I'm giving excuses for some unnamed barrel company or suggesting that you should use a particular one?

can't we all get along here FELLOW SHOOTERS!!!! I called mike rock and cancelled my order, this was after a my quote changed to 6-8 months. this in no way is bashing rock creek, because mike rock seems like one hell of a nice guy. I ordered one from gary Schneider, who is also one hell of a nice guy. he said 6-8 weeks and he is almost on the verge of lying on that quote, but he was honest about it. now, from what I know about his reputation with david tubb and the Marine Corps m-40 series rifles, he knows how to make barrels and is fun to talk to.

Holy cow got an email from Rock Creek. Barrel's are ready for shipping! One year to the day.

I ordered a 6.5x284 from grizzly tools 6 weeks ago and got it last week ! just lucky I guess !

Doc, Grizzley doesnt chamber any barrels that I am aware of. did you order a specific barrel in 6.5x284? Or maybe they are carring Pre-Fits for Savage, I didn't think so but I guess you never know.

I orderd two Bartlein Barrels from Grizzly last week and had them both in three days, both were 6.5 barrels. I am surprised yours took so long.
