Bad luck streak selling items this last few weeks

I don’t know if it’s me having bad luck. In the last few weeks almost every item I have tried to sell has been gone bad. In almost every item I had had people commit send me their address and never pay me, they would also never respond when I asked about payment even tho they even sent me their address. They had no or low feedbacks and were newer members. I guess they were trying to get me to mail an item without having payment first, which was not gonna happen. This happened on 3 items in a row.

Then one item a member PROMISED he would buy it unless he died, He just needed 2 weeks to get the money together. Then dummy I am, I waited Because he was actually a paid member. Finally I contacted him because I did not hear anything. He said he ended up buying another scope. I would let it go easier if he had at least told me, In the mean time, I lost potential buyers. I never used this forum for a place to vent, but this time I will

Reminds me of the guy I had last year who was supposed to buy 24,000 Pistol Primers from me for $300.00 face-To-Face and the guy not only No-showed but wouldn't answer his phone ever after that. - (This actually turned out to be a blessing as I kept the primers and am glad that I did, I don't have to worry about having pistol primers any time soon, and at 30+ bucks a thousand, well you get the picture ).
- I reported the guy to the Forum Boss and the Forum Boss was never able to contact him either.
- One thing that I insist upon is that the "potential buyer' Posts an "I'll Take it" in the advert thread, then I screen-shot that just in case the poster tries to edit or delete his "I'll take it post". - IF the buyer isn't willing to publically post an "I'll Take It", then I don't consider them as being a legit buyer and I won't waste time on them. - That's not to say that I won't negotiate in a P.M. enviornment.
- Some items are easier to sell than others, (I still have 3 adverts open and the prices are IMO much below fair market value). - And money is also tighter now days than pre-Covid because normal everyday living expenses have increased on a bunch of regular stuff we buy in the store, like food items & house-hold stuff.

Good Luck and Last but not least, selling takes patience.

I’ve always had good luck on here but have had some shady trades with really poor communication or none at all on longrangehunting.com. To the point where I won’t deal with people on that site unless they have a significant amount of feedback.

I will ship before payment sometimes with cheaper items like bullets, dies, and brass if I know the member or have dealt with them in the past. But I will never under any circumstance ship without payment on more expensive items because big life expenses can hit in an instant and sometimes people back out. Ok to wait and eventually get money for $100-$200 worth of brass. Not so fun waiting to get paid for optics or guns costing thousands of dollars to replace if no payment is received.

just went thru an ordeal this week with a guy locally that was going to buy a nice 2016 Toyota Tacoma truck from me. Showed him the truck and he shook my hand that he’d buy it at the specified price. While waiting a few days for him to issue payment that he kept promising was coming, he was actually looking at other trucks and bought one from a dealer behind my back. Piece of trash moved here to Montana from New York. No damn respect or honor from those dirtbag city folk. Half a mind to smack the hell out of him if I ever see him in person again. Nothing pisses me off more than a snake that will look you in the eye and shake your hand then go back on his word.

And he's going to be voting in your state now too

Personal responsibility and personal accountability have been in decline for quite some time. My experience has been whether rural or urban denizen isn't any real indication f honoring one's word or being accountable for one's actions. I currently live in the 7th and predicted to be 6th largest city in the USA once the 2020 census results are tallied. I lived in an outskirt community of Houston, 4thlargest US city and way out in the sticks where the nearest Walmart and McDonald's were almost an hour way i the highway speed limits of that era., and numerous places in between those extremes, from Texas and Louisiana to the Great Lakes.

It all is based on the particular individual in my experience, and better safe than sorry is also my experience.

Well, I'm a new member here (and probably don't belong using a Lee Loader), but here's my recent experience online at a different message board. I'm 70 + haven't reloaded in about 40 years. When I did, it was mostly HP rifle. But, I wanted something to do during the long hard Ohio winters (since I can't ride the Harley) so figured I'd Lee Load my (3) 9mm's. I found everything needed cept small pistol primers. Reached out on that message board + had not one but two members offer me primers the next day for their cost $4 a box. Naturally I jumped at the deal + sure enough, there they were at the exact time/place with the missing piece of the puzzle. So while yah got those described above abundant, yah also got some true gentlemen out there goin above and beyond just to help out complete strangers.

Sorry for your bad experience but as the form grows so will the morels of the membership. Paying members or not things will change. All the more reason for Platinum membership.......JMHO!
I feel a much better/safer approach would be to let only paying members in the classifieds . Why should we pay any more than we do now while others do not spend a cent for the same privileges ? Also, a person that has something to lose(membership fee) may not be so quick to not honor their word . It's a tough call , not my forum so all I have is an opinion . Still the best forum on the web in my book .

It's a bummer when folks don't stand behind their word , I have been very fortunate on this forum and have only had a person change their mind a couple times . I lost no money either time so I just put it behind me . If I had lost money it would be a different story.

Had my first bad dealings this week with a "Gold" member-bought a Ruger 77/hornet stock and barrel rechambered to k-hornet,both described as excellent condition. The barrel has pipe wrench/vise marks from removal, which were spray painted over, numerous rust spots and blueing wear and a pitted bore. The stock has lots of scratches, dents and finish missing, plus the bbl. channel has been crudely opened.None of this was mentioned in the add-which of course has been deleted. Not metioning names, but I wish he had "kapt"his word...

That's a great story , just shows how generous folks can be . I find that's a large majority of the folks on these forums , we have to help each other out to keep everyone going in this hobby. A few bad apples can't bring us all down .

Well there goes my theory , that is a real shame Jim . Full disclosure is something some folks neglect . I have never understood that, I go out of my way to point out any imperfections and expect folks to do the same.

I've had the opposite happen, thought I had purchased something only to receive a PM 4 hours later
informing me that they decided to sell the item to someone else. That person is now on my "dog dirt" list.
Hell, I give more away on here than I sell, and my Capt. starts with C not a stupid K.
