Bad luck streak selling items this last few weeks

I don’t know if it’s me having bad luck. In the last few weeks almost every item I have tried to sell has been gone bad. In almost every item I had had people commit send me their address and never pay me, they would also never respond when I asked about payment even tho they even sent me their address. They had no or low feedbacks and were newer members. I guess they were trying to get me to mail an item without having payment first, which was not gonna happen. This happened on 3 items in a row.

Then one item a member PROMISED he would buy it unless he died, He just needed 2 weeks to get the money together. Then dummy I am, I waited Because he was actually a paid member. Finally I contacted him because I did not hear anything. He said he ended up buying another scope. I would let it go easier if he had at least told me, In the mean time, I lost potential buyers. I never used this forum for a place to vent, but this time I will
I know what you mean. I've had some things for sale on here lately and had request for pictures. I would send pictures and never hear anything. No money was lost but one would think it was common courtesy to respond back with something. A simple "not what I wanted" would be fine.

I buy as much as I sell, I at times will run into spurts of some real winners. At times I just as not sell it to them even if I was offered more than the asking price.

Good day,

I'll wait a week or more before making an offer, which is lower that what the seller wants. But I'll have money set aside to cover the offer for a month. I've even paid more to the seller or covered a donation request if it's reasonable. Might take some time for it to happen, but it will.

I've never sold anything on this site and my Gold status is due to the fact I value the opportunities it for learning and purchasing it offers. My dealings with folks have gone well, even when I misunderstood what was on offer due to manufacturers descriptions of parts.

HTH,

I have had similar experiences on ebay and craigslist. I have adopted the policy of, the item remains for sale until someone pays for it. Who ever pays first, wins.

As a side note: I am through with paypal and likely ebay also. I refuse to conduct business with a company (paypal) that refuses to allow you to speak to a customer care representative.

Just bought a stock off a guy with no trader feedback on longrangehunting yesterday. Noticed he joined back in 2016 so it’s was highly unlikely he joined to scam the classifieds. Talked with him quite a bit and he was happy to provide his phone number and tell me the city where he lived. BS’ed about stuff for a little while and he seemed like a good guy. Told him I would use Goods and Services with PayPal and cover the extra fee on my end so my purchase was protected by PayPal. Cost me an extra $10, but that’s cheap insurance compared to losing all my money on the purchase. He stated he would ship the next day(today). First thing this morning he sent me a photo with the tracking info. So far so good.

I am very cautious with traders having no feedback, but it doesn’t mean I’m immediately going to deny doing business with them. There are ways to feel people out and get a pretty good idea if they are honest folks.

Buying and selling has always been great here for me. So far, all transactions have flown like a kite with zero hitches. Sorry to hear of anyone having difficulties with sales but sometimes it just happens. All in all it is the best (guns & shooting) site online because of the great group of guys and the boss of course.

I haven’t traded here yet but have quite a bit on a few forums for other hobbies and ebay. I can only recall a few times when someone ghosted me but I haven’t lost any money and the vast majority of people have been good to deal with. I can see how a bad deal or two would leave a sour taste though...

Buyers with excuses like "I really want to buy it" and "I will pay you when I get paid", etc, should just be ignored as they are not serious buyers.

Easy there, scooter; you’ve likely never been a financially-challenged public servant. My hobby expenditures always came second to our primary needs. Knowing I wanted something special gave me the opportunity to work overtime in anticipation of sending said funds at payday.
GotRDid.

Have had a number of purchases on this site over the years and all were A1 and honest transactions. Some were received prior to the seller receiving the funds, although the funds were on the way...leap of faith on their part. Today...transactions are not so fortunate it seems. Some of us senior citizens still take a word and handshake as value...seems that the younger generation seem to see it differently, or so some see it that way. I was in sales..Real Estate...for 46 years...millennials convinced me to retire. Want it their way now...signing a contract...Means nothing to them...they can change their mind and what are you going to do about it attitude.

The answer to this problem is for the seller who got stiffed to ALWAYS put the info in the buyers feedback section. Future sellers can then check buyers feedback and make an informed decision to take a risk. With this info available to a seller it's "seller beware".

This is why PayPal is so successful. I am specifying PayPal only, even though I do not like their progressive attitude. PayPal protection has saved me a couple of times.

I've had great luck dealing with the members here, and on other boards, often shipping an item before receiving payment. The shooting community seems to have more than its fair of stand-up guys. But like my earlier post said, if you request pictures or additional info it seems like common courtesy would call for a response. A simple "Thanks for the pictures but I'll pass" would not take a lot of effort.

But for the members that I have dealt with, Thanks for the smooth transactions!

I've been extremely fortunate in all my trading with members, never a bad deal always positive.
I had 1 member let me make a couple payments on a McMillan, as my money dosen't flow as well as others.

9 outta 10 stocks I paint for folks I dont recieve payment until its painted, posted, and has a tracking # assigned to the package on the return trip home.
Never a problem!!
