Attention: Ammo Hoarders

...and you know who you are.

You now own more ammunition than you will ever use in several years. By that time, this stupid scare will be long over (recall the run on primers in the 90's) and all will return to normal. Give it a rest and allow fellow shooters the opportunity to get some sandbox time in.

Rant over.

Agree in principle but what about the next "scare" and it's ramifications? If one doesn't think there will ever be another mass shooting and subsequent call for disarmament, well, you' haven't lived on this rock long enough. Come to think of it, how about the proliferation of easily accessible "black" guns now in the hands of newbies who think it's ok to have one standing in the corner of their living room? Cheers, Hog

Does this mean you weren't buying along before the scarcity? I started buying about 30 years ago and have about 30 bricks. I have given some away, but I have none for sale. I really have no sympathy for the complaining people. I buy a little along now from Killough Shooting Sports. If you will get in touch with Dan and get on his list you will have ammo in 4 or 5 weeks. If you buy a brick or 2 along, you will soon have enough. If you run down to the fart mart store and are early, you may get a box.

Matter of fact, I have plenty. And yes, I have always bought a brick every so often. This subject addresses hoarding. I'm sure you know the difference.

Tommie, I have other things that are more pressing than starting the 100th thread discussing hoarding. The way I see it is a person that buys something, they have the right to do with it as they please. If people feels that another person is gouging them, they do not have to buy from them. All pretty simple to me.

Butch speakeths the trutheth. Thou shalt listen.

I don't consider myself a hoarder, but when I know I will need something, and I have the money, I get it. Doesn't matter if I have plans for it in the next week, month, year, or 5 years. I get it. I have bullets I have bought 20+ years sgo. They are still good, and one day I will shoot them.

Stacy, I had to read your post 3 times. Beside the shouting and lack of punctuation, it made your message hard to understand. So, how much ammo would you allow me?

Butch has made it pretty simple for me . Gonna buy the Farley, not the Shadetree.

Be sure to use an alias when you have to buy the better tensioning screws for your Farley from Butch. ;)

Oh well, can't find no ammo ::), guess I'll go back to shooting my Bow. ;D Only KIDDING....... ;D There is ammo out there, just look a little harder and when you see something you can use, don't hesitate, buy it....

At the beginning of this scare I had 20 bricks of 22, I bought a brick to the range every time I went, whenever I seen a father teaching a son or daughter shooting I would give them a brick. I have no 22 LR left but massive amounts of 22wmr. There is a fine line between hoarding and preparedness, I am prepared for a two front zombie attack myself but am still looking for H4350.

Tommie and Stacy,
Even though we may have different views about things doesn't mean I dislike you. I just disagree with your views on this. We probably agree on other things. I just don't see how a person that started buying in the old days should be castigated for having ammo. How do you know how much ammo a person needs? When you have 4 Grandsons and one Grand Daughter that like to shoot, how much is too much? When the neighbor's young Son comes over to shoot at turtles in my pond with my 10/22, how much do I need? When my Grandson comes in from West Virgina University with a couple of his fellow football team mates, how much ammo do I need?
If I run out I will not come on the forum and complain.
I believe this is one of the greatest problems with the internet. You can not look a person in the eye when conversing or hear the voice inflection.

Anybody that thinks a fellow shooter that pays attention enough to buy ahead of what he needs to be a hoarder is an awfully short sighted individual.

And so what if someone buys powder they won't use and then sells at a profit at the gunshow. At least they are paying attention and buying instead of assuming what they want will be in stock when they need said item. I have been buying up powder lately every time I find it. I just check in the gun stores in my area once or twice a week and buy as soon as it comes in. I have even traded powder before when someone had what I needed and I had what they needed. This "hoarding" has kept me shooting each week.

In fine counties like Russia, Syria, Iran, China, those that know better tell those that don't what they can and can't obtain. Here in the US we still have a primitive nearly sub-human system that allows way too much freedom and personal decision. We allow non-conformists, irrationals, hobbyists and even liberals to buy whatever they can (and can't) afford, any time they please, in as large a quantity as they want.

Screwed up, ain't it?

I'm going to jump in here with caution...... I don't think ammo hoarders are to blame at all. I can't see how someone could blame this shortage of components on hoarding. I see hoarding as having something and not wanting to get rid of it. In order to hoard you had to be able to get it first.... and we can't get it. I think the problem is the PANIC BUYING. Some guys that used to buy a box of 100 bullets to shoot some groundhogs now buy as much as they can because of the fear of not being able to get any more. It's kinda like the chicken little syndrome. I think that creates more of a shortage than hoarding. Just my .02

There are lots of new shooters coming into the sport through the back door of fear, then there are lots of shooters that put things on hold to raise families etc now coming back for one reason or another but mostly fear, eventually things will top out and come back in line.

Just what is wrong with me having guns in the corner of my living room?

butchlambert has it right. The handwriting has been on the wall since 1968. It seems only a few took the time to read and prepare for what was, and is to come.
There will be more, so take the time, now, to prepare.

Because of stupidity and irrational thinking such as this:

http://kdvr.com/2013/03/05/victims-of-gun-theft-could-be-responsible-for-crimes-committed-with-stolen-guns/

That and I'd much rather spend my assets on my hobby than defending myself in a frivolous lawsuit.
