ATF learned how to do tax stamps quickly

Does anyone know for certain, how an individual could sell a suppressor? I bought it a few years ago, waited a long time and got my stamp and the can. Only used it a few times and stored it. I no longer have a reason to keep it.
Your best bet would be to try and sell it used to a gun shop that deal's in NFA items. It would be troublesome to try to attempt an individual sale. In my opinion.
Individual sales are done all the time... Your SOT of choice would handle the transfer, and probably charge a ~$50-100 fee. The stamp is only done once, so the buyer is only out $200 for the stamp, just like if they bought it new from anywhere else.

Internet sale? No problem. Just post it for sale, sell it, ship it to the buyer's local SOT, and the buyer can pick it up after the Form 4 is approved.

Heck -- whatcha got? I may be interested if the price is right.

Transfers on a Form 4 $200 tax paid to an unlicensed individual in your state or a licensee in any state. Note cans have little resale from non-SOTs unless you find a buyer in your state. You are looking at $400 in taxes to move it across state lines, $200 to a FFL, and $200 to the buyer.

Most FFLs won't give you much for a used can since they have to pay the $200 to get it on their books, hold it, sell it, and try to turn a profit.

Silencerco Octane 9HD with 3 lug adapter.

It's not hard. Just transfer it thru a shop that sells supressors

Why does a tax require an "examiner"?

This has always been my question. What is the difference between the background check on a firearm and silencer?

The ATF is the TAX regulator. Why do they need to "examine" a tax?

Honestly asking.
I imagine the “Examiner” does the background checks.

Just purchased another, as an individual this time. You know, as test to help those on this site that were considering buying one if the times have been reduced. Will report back when it is approved. You are all welcome. lol.
I think you will be shooting with it by the weekend!

I have a suppressor I bought on a whim at a slightly discounted price. I didn't really need it. It's been shot less than 75 times. My dealer is close by and I asked him about a resale and he was in no way interested unless I sold it at a deep discount or walked in with a buyer that I found. So, I might as well keep it.

This is just an opinion of mine, but unless the atf keeps up the fast processing and the manufacturers can't keep up, a used suppressor isn't worth much.

I think it will make them easier to sell locally to a same state resident. If a transfer only takes a couple days it's a lot easier than waiting a year to hand over the goods.

Sure it still takes some confidence with the buyer handing you cash and waiting for form 4 approval but it's sure better than the old wait times.

Not 24 hours and the e-document is signed. Now we see how long it takes for approval.
I bought another one yesterday and did the docusign this morning. Still waiting on one I certified on the 19th. I was hoping that one would be as fast as the one I certified on the 16th and already picked up. I bet they are busier, since most of the suppressors are out of stock now on silencershop and in my lgs... well... all the good ones.

I got an email after the docusign that it will take 6-11 days for the form 3 (transfer from silencer shop to lgs), then I will get to submit the form 4 at the lgs. Hope I can submit it remotely as I am out of town for a couple of weeks.

I guess you ordered one that they didn't have in stock and are waiting for it to get there. I'm surprised they even put it in the system for the docusign until it actually arrived. I've always had to wait till the suppressor got to the store before they even did anything.... the few times I ordered one that wasn't in stock.

I think if you're doing a Trust they will let you certify by phone or the docusign by Join Sesson... I have never done that. If Individual I think they make you come in to the store and you have to type in your userid and pin to certify. I've always had to come to the store, even though I live an hour away. And sometimes their internet would go down or Eforms would be so slow it won't allow anyone to get anything submitted. Fun!!

I normally purchase them with my trust. I wanted to test the claim that the atf was approving applications in days. You are correct about ordering from the website and the dealer not having it in stock. Last year I purchased 2 suppressors. Both on a trust. One was in stock at the dealer and I submitted the for remotely (dealer with a kiosk). The second was not in stock at the store and they made me come to the store to submit (dealer without a kiosk). In the past it took so long to get approval to take the prisoner home that I didn’t really pay attention to the time between the intermediate steps. If I have to go to the store then I will have a couple of extra weeks due to me being out of town. We will see. Hope others that have been on the fence about a suppressor purchase can see the process is the penalty but shouldn’t stop them from getting one.

The process is the penalty... that is for sure. lol I have a friend who loves suppressors and is retired LEO. He hasn't gotten one because he says he doesn't want to be in some government database. I say, are you kidding me? The mind can be a terrible thing. lol

I am sure to be on all kinds of government watch lists, what’s one more going to hurt.

"retired LEO. He hasn't gotten one because he says he doesn't want to be in some government database."

That's just laughable. He's not in some, he's almost certainly in all of them.

I am getting a can in for transfer from another SOT on a Form 3. Will then eform 4 tax paid to an instate customer. We'll see how fast it gets approved.
