Anyone like racing?

After drag racing and before serious shooting I messed around with 4WDs. 1964 Nova station wagon that I installed jeep drive train parts behind a 300 HP 327. 4.57:1 was the HIGHEST gear ratio I could put in the differentials, so I put in an overdrive unit in place of the PTO, so it had 12 speeds foreward and 4 in reverse! I never got any cars into Hot Rod Magazine, but this was in Four Wheeler Magazine in 1974!

And I've alway loved 'Vettes! Lead Sled Parade in Salina, KS!

I too love the midyear Corvettes. My son now has this one. Some time back I had a split window but sold it. You can't keep them all.

I've been in the Bay Area since 1962. Don't remember racing in Half Moon Bay. Did they run at the airport?

I have been to Fremont (and shot an emergency approach to the gliderport nextdoor to the Fremont drag strip when I was taking flight instruction.)

I remember my dad taking us to (Vacaville? Vallejo?) for sprint cars, and I used to hit Sears Pt. and Laguna Seca for road races (2 and 4 wheel.) I was also at Long Beach the last time they brought the F1 cars in (80's?)

Great history you have there, Mort. Thanks..

I actually never ended up getting my ticket. I ran into some unexpected expenses buying a condo, and couldn't afford the cross country flights that were next in line. All good though; I probably couldn't have afforded to do much flying anyway.

Brian,
Grandsons ,son and myself went to the last race this year in Reno. A shame how it ended.

I haven't read any recent NTSA update, and I wasn't there, but it's hard to fathom how/why #2 in the landing pattern broadsided (race winner) #1 in the pattern. My first thought was sun in his eyes trying to get into that pattern slot hastily, but a friend pointed out the sun was just past zenith that time of day, and his heading was near +/- 270.

Does anyone happen to know circumstances under which California may issue a "salvaged" title for an old car which is in really great shape and runs?
