Anyone else having trouble with type s redding die?

I would start polishing with 600 "wet or dry"at the mouth of the die to make a smooth radius . Then ued a very good lube such as Imperial die wax, stay away from the spray lubes and water based.
.

Don't!!! It is NOT a smooth radius problem!! It is a defective die and CANNOT be fixed at home!!!

Once you play or tinker with the die, you own it, and Redding will do absolutely NOTHING to fix it.

Send the damn thing back to Redding and let them fix it or replace it.

Thanks a ton guys!! This website is full of great people willing to help out. I will call redding tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks again. I will keep you guys posted.

Why don't you just send your problem child back to the factory ?

I'm sure they would help you.

Had exactly the same problem with a Redding die and Lapua brass in my 223 and 243.

I found out that it wasn't the die at all but because I thought the Lapua brass is so good out of the box I didn't do any prepping.

Turns out that because I didn't de-burr the outside of the case neck, small edges from the case neck were being broken off by the die and caught between the case neck and the die and scratching or 'shaving' the neck area.

Clean the die with some copper cleaner and de-burr the outside of the cases and I'll bet the problem goes away.

How much do you want to bet???

I have bought and loaded thousands of Lapua cases, and NEVER seen a "burr" on any of them, nor have I (or would I) ever deburrred one.

But what is wrong with this advice is that these cases have already been fired, so any "burr" will have been sent on it's merry way before ever getting to the die.

He doesn't need to clean the die, he needs to return it.

Catshooter, I'm not really interested in your opinion as I am basing my comments on experience and fact.

Skynnard3325, try Googling images for 'lapua brass scratched' and you will see quite a few posting on this.

As I said, clean the dies then de-burr the outside of the case necks and the problem will go away.

I Googled "Lapua brass scratched", and found nothing that relates to this thread.

Skynnard's problem is with the BODY, not the neck.

Bonjour...

Guys. Skynnard3325 sent me 4 of his cases. They resized effortlessly in a Whidden die this morning. I hope this fact helps you guys in determining what Skynnard3325 should do next.

Stubb.

I'll be the first to admit my advice was bad! I've had many sets of Redding dies, all good stuff, my latest 6mm BR die looks a little unpolished, but still works.

My apologies :)
