Redding 30BR FL bushing die problems?

Westex

built a 30BR AR 15 and started making brass , after resizing the first brass I noticed vertical lines marked on my brass . Has anyone ever had a bad die like this from Redding? looks like they fluted

yes ! I will post some later today . I did polish with 1000 grit sandpaper on a wood dowel and drill. it helped a little but marks are still there on the body only, the necks are fine where bushing makes contact. you cant feel the marks but they are there. I think they have a bad lot of dies out there and I have one. thx! Mark

Westex, I knew you were talking about the body of the case. It would just be easier if we could see pictures. Good that you will post later. It is entirely possible that you have a bad die. Redding just went through an expansion period and have hired a lot of new help. I hope you didn't void their warranty by polishing the die. ;)

not worried about polishing , I did not get crazy on the polishing just a small amount and cleaned it . the die is bad and I bet mine is not the only one . thx! Mark

Don't feel too bad, I have a Redding COMP seating die the same way, marking bullets, and brass.. I got a Wilson to use, no problems now....

Westex, If you can--post pictures of first piece of brass marked by die beside one sized after polishing die.

And they are going through it again - I was speaking to Robin, and they are now going to add 40% more tool room floor space and almost $6,000,000 in CNC machines. Who said we can't manufacture in the USA :)

I got the 30 BR FL die in the same condition as you mentioned it. Vertical marks, could be seen with naked eyes. Could not polish them out. Dull reamer? Not verry happy, it was very expensive die... will go with Whidden next time.

Several folks have had the same problem, not only with the 30BR Die. Was told they hired some new machinist as a the previous "new" one(s) wasn't doing the job. The cure is to call Redding and arrange to return the die or have it polished which wasn't done properly. They will either replace the die or repair it once they test it. Hence they are also living up to Catshooter's comments about "cleaning up their act" and restoring the integrity of their products as most reloaders have experienced over the years.
