Any readers out there??

Very avid reader here.I recommend anythng by Haruki Murikami, easy entry novels -The Wind-up Bird Chronicle,Kafka by the Shore.

Currently I am savouring
The Shoshoneans:The People of the Basin-Plateau,Edward Dorn....a travelogue of the great western plateau written by a poet.

If your physician is recommending books to you, you have a good one . I am biased a bit as I did this for many years before I hung up my white coat.

Cheers!
I normally gravitate to engineering people, but I have 3 Doctor friends, 2 have retired. Dr. Bruck was my orthopedic doc. Bill was a physical specimen and weight lifter and we shared an interest in the old west. My family doc, Weldon Johnson, has retired. I never saw him without his cowboy boots. He is an avid hunter and has great dogs. Fnu Mohammed Mahmoodurrahman is my endo guy and is Indian. He is second gen. American with Father, Sister, and Brother are physicians. To me he is just a kid, but seems to have 50 years experience. I've been lucky to find the ones that have great personalities and easy to be around. I have read the Empire of the Summer Moon. My DIL introduced me to CJ Box and Joe Pickett. I have read most of the authors mentioned. I can do novels, fiction, biography, and anything American history. Wyman Meinzer has guided me to Texas books from about 1840 to 1900. They are books written by the settlers, ranchers, outlaws, business people, and the Texas Rangers. Some of you may know of frank Eaton-Pistol Pete, an early Oklahoma Lawman and they used his character at Okla. State U as their mascot. My uncle lived down the road from him and spent a lot of time listening to his stories.
I will look into some of the suggestions posted here. I will be reading
In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction
Gabor Mate Md

I am a sucker for anything about our Civil War. As of the last count, I have 63 books on the subject. So many more to go. I was in hog heaven the years I lived just outside of Richmond, VA.

My wife reads a lot and she tried to get me to read some of the good books she recommended but i worked 5-6 days a week and just didnt have the time. So now i moved to night time 12 hr shift and only 3 days a week. A lot less headache and bs at workand plenty of time to read. About same time i changed my work schedule i took trip with buddy to Wyoming to pd shoot. He introduced me to joe Pickett the game warden books 22-23 books by cj box. Well the books fit to a t the people out there and i really enjoyed the books. Read all of them while at work over the winter !! Well now I’m hooked on all kinds of fiction mess even to the point of reading on my 4 days off. Got my wife’s old kindle and bought her a new one and do kindle unlimited but only read the free stuff ! I have to say it does take more time than watching a movie but enjoy a book as much as or more than a good movie. If anyone wants to suggest a good book post it !

I'm a rabid reader, hooked solid on Stephen Hunter novels. This is after my time reading everything from Clancy, Thor and Ludlum. Thinking about adding Jack Carr to the list. Most of my reading time is spent lakeside in the shade enjoying the nature outside and pondering life itself.

Reading the Hunter novel "Snipers Honor" for the third time, it's that good, as is all of his work. This one includes much WWII history and centers on an actual Russian girl sniper with an incredible record in the field. Plus, he's "one of us" too, and spent some time PD'ing from a BRP a few years ago and knows his way around a rifle quite well.

The movie "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg was adapted from his novel "Time to Hunt" (the book as usual is 10X better than the movie.)
I've been wanting to build The Tenth Black King since I read this book when it first came out. Now I'm old and if I do it it'll be a 6 something. Hunter is GREAT and Pale Horse Coming is great with references to historical shooters.

Hunter is FANTASTIC

"The Book Theif", the best I've read in decades. Basically an orphaned girl in early Nazi Germany who attracts the curiousity of the Grim Reaper. Great read.

Thank you for reviving this masterpiece, I am reading it now.
"Durant", what a coincidence.

I don't read much anymore but I do listen to books on tape, CD, digital media while I'm traveling and can't do anything else. Will and Ariel Durant are my goto's. Their 11 volume "Story of Civilization" is beyond compare. The second volume, The Life of Greece is probably my favorite. I've been through it a couple of times. It is proof positive that nothing has really changed in western civilization since the Laws of Solon over 2600 years ago. If you take into account the code of Hammurabi circa 1700's BC in (covered in volume 1 Our Oriental Heritage), it's been same shite different day for far longer than 2600 years. I hated history when I was young. Now I can't get enough of it. Especially the way the Durant's write it. People just don't communicate like that anymore.

I think the Durant's "Story of Philosophy" should be required reading before one leaves school. It would circumvent these ignorant children thinking that the thoughts going through their heads are somehow unique and ground breaking when they learn that those same thoughts were articulated some 2300 years ago by the likes of Socrates, Plato Aristotle, Diogenes, Epicurus and many others.

Thank you for reviving this masterpiece, I am reading it now.
I wish more people would. Knowing what came before provides perspective that few have these days. Most in the US don't even know the structure of their own government let alone how it came about and body of knowledge our founding fathers possessed. They knew this material.

Great post. I'm an avid reader and I'm always looking for good books to read. Some may not like him but my favorite author is Stephen King and my favorite series is the Gunslinger. I must have read the Dark Tower books 4 times. I think im on my 5th time. I have too many authors I like and even more books to list.

My Endroconolgist knows that I read a lot. He recommended a book that he thought a lot of. It is not my normal read, but I downloaded it and really liked it.
When Breath Becomes Air by Dr. Paul Kalanithi.
It kinda makes you stop and think of life.
Just read a synopsis. It sounds tragic. But from what I hear you saying, it's more insightful.
