Any readers out there??

I'm a rabid reader, hooked solid on Stephen Hunter novels. This is after my time reading everything from Clancy, Thor and Ludlum. Thinking about adding Jack Carr to the list. Most of my reading time is spent lakeside in the shade enjoying the nature outside and pondering life itself.

Reading the Hunter novel "Snipers Honor" for the third time, it's that good, as is all of his work. This one includes much WWII history and centers on an actual Russian girl sniper with an incredible record in the field. Plus, he's "one of us" too, and spent some time PD'ing from a BRP a few years ago and knows his way around a rifle quite well.

The movie "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg was adapted from his novel "Time to Hunt" (the book as usual is 10X better than the movie.)

Yes sir, I've had a mild case of diabetes for many years. I go to Durant to the Choctaw Indian Clinic twice a year. Sometimes you engage in interest with your doc beyond the office. We talk about books and life.
Good deal!... gotta keep you healthy--you got lots of wisdom to share before you see Jesus!

"Durant", what a coincidence.

I don't read much anymore but I do listen to books on tape, CD, digital media while I'm traveling and can't do anything else. Will and Ariel Durant are my goto's. Their 11 volume "Story of Civilization" is beyond compare. The second volume, The Life of Greece is probably my favorite. I've been through it a couple of times. It is proof positive that nothing has really changed in western civilization since the Laws of Solon over 2600 years ago. If you take into account the code of Hammurabi circa 1700's BC in (covered in volume 1 Our Oriental Heritage), it's been same shite different day for far longer than 2600 years. I hated history when I was young. Now I can't get enough of it. Especially the way the Durant's write it. People just don't communicate like that anymore.

I think the Durant's "Story of Philosophy" should be required reading before one leaves school. It would circumvent these ignorant children thinking that the thoughts going through their heads are somehow unique and ground breaking when they learn that those same thoughts were articulated some 2300 years ago by the likes of Socrates, Plato Aristotle, Diogenes, Epicurus and many others.

Rick Bragg fan here
All Over but the Shouting is about growing up rough and rural but turning out just fine
His book The Best Cook In The World is really good also --you read how his mom kept them all fed and the neighbors too during hard times--the lady was a dynamo !! Fun read no matter who you are

Actually, I think you mean the book originally titled "Point of Impact". Later re-released as "Shooter" because of the movie name change. Great book...pretty good movie. About a year before "Point of Impact" was officially published I picked up a pre-print book in a yard sale that was a proofreading copy printed before the book was released.

Nelson DeMille , everything he wrote.
Up Country is my favorite but I’m prejudice.
Word of Honor gives a really different look at the US military, especially if you were an officer and think you’re all done with the service.
The man had a very unique way with words. He writes as if he’s talking to you.
It’s actually the only fiction I read.

My Endroconolgist knows that I read a lot. He recommended a book that he thought a lot of. It is not my normal read, but I downloaded it and really liked it.
When Breath Becomes Air by Dr. Paul Kalanithi.
It kinda makes you stop and think of life.
Last few years my reading has all but dried up. I grew up on Ken Follett, Forsyth, James Clavell and others. I recommend Lonesome Dove and All the Kings Men to anyone who will listen. I have read a few Reacher novels. Excellent reading is Don Winslow. He wrote 3 books re the SA drug wars, DEA stories. Very good, based on fact according to a friend of mine. One summer, I burned through all the Bond novels in about two weeks. Great way to spend a few weeks.

I read constantly. I try to stay away from novels because true life is inspirational. I have two books I would highly recommend. Both have a touch of Texas to them. The first is Texas Legend, the story of Jim Hall and his Chaparrals. Starting in the early 60's, the innovations that Jim Hall brought to auto racing are still the state of the art. I was a huge fan practically from the very beginning.
The second book, Empire of the Summer Moon, tells of the subjugation of Comanche nation in the late 1800's. To me, it parallels the troubles of fighting an asymmetrical war with the terrorists of today. They had their methods and they brought down.
It brought the perspective of the logistics of fighting a war in a featureless ocean of land. The Comanches were arguably the finest mobile cavalry in the world.

Very avid reader here.I recommend anythng by Haruki Murikami, easy entry novels -The Wind-up Bird Chronicle,Kafka by the Shore.

Currently I am savouring
The Shoshoneans:The People of the Basin-Plateau,Edward Dorn....a travelogue of the great western plateau written by a poet.

If your physician is recommending books to you, you have a good one . I am biased a bit as I did this for many years before I hung up my white coat.

Cheers!

Went to one room and two room schools in grade school. Read nearly every book in the small libraries. I told my wife that I would start reading books again when I was unable to do anything else. I'm still healthy and a project oriented soul but in the last year I started reading also. I like series books by authors that entertain me. I have read all of the C.J. Box Joe Pickett series. Joe is a Wyoming game warden in this novel series. I'm currently reading John Sanford's Prey series featuring Minnesota homicide detective Lucas Davenport. I have read some of J. A. Jance's series featuring Seattle detective J. P. Beaumont. I like most of Bill O'Reilly "killing" series. My guess is a high percentage of forum members here would like the Joe Pickett series.

I read a lot, mainly articles and reference stuff pertaining to shooting/reloading. There’s tons of great written stuff you’d never find. I recently got around to reading issues of varmint hunter which has great articles.
