I know.
I am a child of the ‘50’s/‘60’s. When Chrysler came out with the 413 version of the “B” engine in the early ‘60’s, that was about the baddest player on the block. Chevy followed soon after with their Mk IV big Block, the race was on. (Not discounting the W series 409).
By the way. The Beach Boys got it wrong. My money would have been on the “413 Super Stock Dodge”.
I’m just a die hard Big Block guy. I absolutely love the late 60’s “coke bottle” Dodges and Plymouth’s. I was at the height of my youthful hot rod days when the 426 Hemi hit the roads in ‘’64. Just looking at one of those sitting under the hood gave one chills.
When I decided to build a custom hot rod in the early ‘90’s, My first choice was a Dodge or Plymouth, with a big ”B” engine as the nucleus.
But I stuck with a GM product because I had learned about everything there was to know about Big Block Chevys during my boat racing endeavors through the 1970’s.
So, I went with a ‘67 Chevelle, one of the few body styles besides the Dodges and Plymouths that defined what a car of the “muscle car era” should really look like.
While the engine in my Malibu is not a true “Chevy”, (being a custom built 540), when you open the hood, the first thought is ……”Rat”
