Anschutz 64 action, can it hang?

You have good components. 5098 is a decent trigger. Bedded by Anschutz should be a big bonus. For the type of shooting you say you will participate in, your rifle should do quite well. But, finding the right ammo and having a good rest will make a positive impact. Spend your money on the best-for-your-rifle ammo and practice time. Only other thing you might purchase is a tuner. You will be competitive. HAVE FUN!!
I have a Harrels tuner on it, I haven’t had time to tweak it yet this winter. It seems to like eley match over tenex so far. I have a neo and Edgewood rear bag. I had (25 years ago) a 2013 in a Benchrest stock and shot more serious matches but I’m really liking these “fun” type matches lately. The last few years we have been shooting long range br and switching gears a lil bit again. Thanks

You have everything you need. Top tier ammo. High quality rest and rear bag. A should be competitive rifle. Just need the "right" ammo and some trigger time. I would take your setup to a local club match with confidence. Good luck!

Thanks, I’m actually looking forward to testing weather. We had our first cold winter in many years here in Tennessee so it’s not really been fit weather to test. We did shoot a match last week when it was 18 degrees that morning though, I ran it so I didn’t shoot. Gonna have a lil fun this spring.

ttfreestkle,
Are you going to give long range 22 LR a try? I have been into lone range steel for a few years now, I love it.

We have steel out to 1600 at our range but I don’t think many that come to our 22 matches have enough dial to get past 200. Probably will keep it at 200 and closer for matches. But that’s not to say we won’t give a farther shot a try just to see how it goes.

Worlds Longest Shot Challenge at the Valdina Ranch in Texas 2019. Targets ran from 200 to 5??yards, 5 shots at each target. Target size was 12x12 I was the only shooter using a hand gun and missed my 3rd shot out of 5 at 470yds which would have been a new ELR Central World Record had I not missed. I normally us handguns in rifle competitions and do quite well. 6BF0A0CD-4504-46B4-8C27-2FFB768671A6.jpeg170B0641-8135-480A-AF03-0347E5659FBF.jpeg2ACE7C07-FC9D-41F9-86F7-22493609A7C5.jpeg

They gonna have any more 22 matches this year?

I cropped your post to get to the meat of the matter. IMO and IME, and I have a tiny bit of experience in the matter, you need to stop thinking what I cropped your post to above.

You should not think brands, especially in the two offerings you have listed. I will guarantee, with no doubt what so ever, you stumbled on good lot/lots of Match, and perhaps not so good lot/lots of Tenex. They are exactly the same ammo, per say. The first numbers for Match will either be 10, indicating downgraded Tenex, or 11, indicating materials before assembly that did not make Tenex standards before loading and were labeled as Match from the git-go. 11=Eley product code for Match. 10=Eley product code for Tenex.

I have seen 11 started Match that shot every bit as good as 10 sorted down Tenex that was packaged as Match and 10 sorted down to Match that will run with most all Tenex. You should not get caught up in the brand 'thing'. I see guys on forums doing this all the time. You are not testing brands, you should be testing lots. Same goes for Lapua CX, Midas+, and X-Act.

Buy different lots, hopefully that have inventory to buy, and test those lots. The more you do this the more you will agree that it is not a MFG's brand niche name, it's the particular lot in your rifle. I have had Lapua CX tested in their tunnel that blew away the 15 or so lots of Midas+ I tested the same day. I have had Eley Match that did the same against what was tested with Tenex. I have had Tenex that was only good for foulers and the same with Match. Lot numbers, not brands.

Evidently you think those are the only ones I tested, not true at all. That’s just what it prefers out of the stock I have at the moment( so far). . I tested sk match, sk subsonic, rws r50,r100,target, Midas m , eley club, match, tenex, aguila, wolf match and wolf target( wolf is 20 years old lots). The tenex lot as well as the match lots are from years ago as well when I had my 2013 br setup and both shot great in that gun, but this is a different gun. I will test more when I acquire it but that was what I had on hand.

I have an old 1413 Super Match (54 action) that shoots really good but I think my 64 action Exemplar pistol is actually more accurate and I don't feel I give anything up shooting against the fancy modern actioned rimfires. I'm no expert but once that round is in the chamber and sent on its way down a good barrel it don't know what shoved it into place. That pesky Randy keeps everyone around here on their toes with those incredible shooting handguns. I think it's the Arken scopes that give us the edge. :)

My Anschutz 64SBR does very well in local factory matches however will not hang with my Suhl action with Shilen ratchet barrel, Harrell tuner and Stith stock in custom.Anschutz.jpg

Are you the same guy who made the original post here? The guy who was taking his 64 down to the local club just for fun hoping to just "hang" middle of the pack?
