annealing machines

AMP is definitely the way to go if you can drop that much coin. I have the EP Integrations annealer and like it a lot. Annealeez is good too and neither of those will break the bank.

I know the AMP is about the best but it is out of my price range for the amout I shoot. Right now I use a cordless drill and case holder, consistancy is a problem. Isn't anyone using a cheaper one that at least works decent ?

I'm an accuracy-minded hunter, and I use the AGS 3.0 annealer. I do small batch runs, and 50 cases at one time would be a lot of cases for me. The AGS works very well for this volume of annealing. They are currently selling for $280 with free shipping. It is a lot of bang-for-the-buck.

I particularly like the two-torch design of the AGS. It makes annealing the larger magnum cases go fast. My first annealer was a one-torch design, and the dwell time for big cases was a little too long for my comfort, although it worked pretty well for smaller cases. Also, with the AGS, I like that the flame is not directed close to any part of the annealing machine, itself, thereby preventing the possibility of heat damage to the machine.

I think there are multiple good flame annealers on the market. It is just a matter of choosing a unit with specific features that work best with your work flow. And, the AMP is nice, but is a substantially bigger investment than many care to make, myself included

Hopefully I will not derail your thread. I used 2 propane torches and a cordless drill for many years and thousands of rounds. Then I bought a MRB (Mike's Reloading Bench) unit after considering an Annealeze. Still have the MRB unit. I do all my annealing now with an Amp.

Unless you are using an Amp, first thing is what temperature do you wish to use? 750 degrees F is commonly used (Tempilaq) inside the case neck to check. But 750 is only stress relieving, not annealing. To anneal you need to achieve above 900 degrees F. It will be a dull red glow in a darkened room. After you decide, then you need to adjust whatever you are using to consistently achieve that.

Once you have made that decision, then pick the unit that allows you to repetitively achieve that. When I was using the MRB unit, I used it every 5 firings to avoid neck splits. Now I use the Amp every firing. For improved sizing control and neck tension. Just a question of how far you wish to continue down this rabbit hole.

And after you watch this, you might ask yourself, does it really matter?

There are a few groups of shooters at the local range where each group owns an AMP they share. The range has secure lockers which make this practical. Not for everyone, but I've seen it in action, looks like it works for them.
