I haven't taken things that far. Years back I set one up for .002 total clearance and struggled with that set up. Went back to +-.003 and haven't seen a reason to change. There's damn good shooters running no turn chambers as well, but I haven't had the balls to try it yet lol.

Round one of the "tournament" started today.
Best tunes for each, and an example of a group ripped off from some extras in group fashion rather than the round robin fashion for the tests. Conditions were squirrely, but spread out evenly throughout the two tests. Alpha 4 was powder tested yesterday and alpha 1 last weekend, so in the future I'll do tuning Saturday and versus on Sunday.

Appreciate the updates.
Here's a question likely without an answer yet but I'll ask it anyway. As I understand it you are testing flash hole size so are you essentially tuning the flash hole to your platform, componenents, bullets, powder, primers, chamber, barrel etc. or in other words just because a particular flash hole size is going to favor your platform and components that doesn't mean it will favor everyone else's correct?
Different lots or brands of powder and or primers could possibly favor a different size flash hole and there would be know way to know for sure without testing in your own platform..
I've got nothing but respect for your work here and recognize the effort you have into and thank you for sharing it but I'm curious if you think your findings are going to be the rule without exception for everyone else's platform and components or to take advantage of your findings that flash hole size does show a preference a guy is going to need multiple sets of various size flash hole brass to test it out in his own platform?

Too early to really tell, but I'll donate one barrel/tie up one platform to do what I can. About all I can do is tune them all on 400s the best I can, and do head to head enough times to "conclude a winner". Then, suppose since I'm low on br4s and 205s, I will do the same with 450s??...Maybe the results will mirror or flip flop. If they flip flop......well I guess it was a waste of time and components. At some point one of them will be "best in this barrel", but does that mean it's best in the next barrel? I won't have that answer until we see a trend over a period of YEARS, and that will be all of us, as this barrel will be holding up my target board by then

What I know so far.....as of today anyway.
I'm no longer afraid of .080" orifices.
Also not afraid of a teeny weenie in extreme cold.
Firing the first time, and then uniforming with my old Hart adjustable cutter was not a problem. However they do have a sort of "go-stop-go" feeling while priming.
They will shoot competitive groups, as they're currently made and sold.
What I don't know....as of today anyway.
Pretty much anything else lol.

You have to remember this pertains to mostly what Tom is shooting.
He is just posting what is working with his barrel, his action, his temps
and altitude, his primers, bullets, powder, neck tension, etc. To find out if this would work
for everyone else, he would need to change barrels, primers and place he shoots.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't have that time and resources to do all that.
Take this info for what it is, a test in his conditions and components for him
to shoot smaller.
