ADG 300 wsm brass testing

Hello from Europe
any news about ADG brass of 300WSM is now available?
thanks for info.

ADG brass for the 300 WSM was in stock about 2 weeks ago at Precision Reloading, it sold out in 2 days. I registered with them to get an email alert, and they DID send it, jumped on it within the hour and got two boxes. So i’m set for the next year.

Best brass available today for the 300 WSM, by far. Very hard case heads, and a narrow weight/internal volume range. Could get SDs between 4.6 and 5.7 fps for a box of 50 after weight sorting 100 cases into two batches of 45 each, with the 10 heaviest cases set aside for pressure testing of new bullet/powder combinations.

On reload 13 now, and primer pockets are still OK. Have been tracking the primer pocket diameter with pin gauges and an inside micrometer: Based on average expansion per shot fired, my simple linear model predicts 18-19 reloads before it will exceed 0.2110”. That would be good case life.

The one batch of 45 i have used so far is still fine, load is about 1.5 grain below hard bolt lift, and no clickers yet. But about 100 fps more than i could get with Norma brass. Mostly die to internal volume differences, but also ejector marks are slow to appear.

The 10 cases set aside for pressure testing abuse have three clickers now, which does not surprise me. Primer pockets are very loose. Maybe 6 reloads on these cases. I really hope this does not become a major problem for me soon!

It is an MPA/Spencer barrel, with the chambering done by MPA. The laser engraving indicates it is a “match chamber”. Looks like it is close to a min spec chamber. Neck clearance is about 5 thousands. Inside micrometer showed it might be 1-1.5 thou over reamer spec at the base. But it is hard to measure hole size accurately, so i cannot be sure…. Maybe that is why my setup is working?

Full Length Resizing die is a cheap Hornady “Custom Grade” die. Nothing custom about it of course. Sizing effort is substantial, but it seems to work fine.

I see you are getting a custom Micron die made up. How much smaller are you aiming for at the base compared to a “standard” die?

Perhaps contact ADG and ask them which companies they supplied brass to this time, then set up email alerts with all these vendors… And hope for the best! Seems they make it every 5-7 months now.

Oh, I'd say it pretty good! I just finished tuning up a 300wsm hunting rifle. 7.5 pound rifle shot from a Harris bipod. This is the whole tuning process, all shot at 600yds. Ladder, groups at the high node, fine tune seating, cold bore to verify scope dope, done. .011-.017 jump agged 1.2". If a sporter weight hunting rifle can do this Im sure its capable of more. This is unsorted brass with nothing done to it. thumbnail (36).pngResized_20220622_072644.jpegthumbnail (38).pngthumbnail (39).png

JGS goes 4 thou sizer and I am going another 1.5

There is no questioning it’s quality or toughness over Norma or is consistency…..just how much sizing does it take to move the base after 5+ firings, it’s a game changer for WSM , my die will move Norma and Bertram more than ADG, I am not annealing

Your old die probably wont work. The bullet central micron die is going to be the only off the shelf die thats going to squeeze enough. You had also better start with it. Once you start getting clickers it wont fix them.

I'm using Norma 300 WSM brass loaded with 62 grs of RL23 under a Berger 220 gr LRHT, how many grains less would you want to start with using the ADG brass or would it be ok to start with 62?
