add weigh to my stock ?

Hi I have a boyd thumb hole laminate stock that I am going to add weight to, attempting to reduce recoil. I'm thinking of taking off 1/2 inch under the front of the stock and grafting on a piece of 13x3x.5'' aluminum. This add weight and make the stock 3'' wide. The barrel is floated. I also have a RAS on it. What do ya all think ? Yes I'm a puss, lol
thanks Link

You could take the butt plate off, drill a large hole, and put in some lead plugs. The plate will keep them in. A good muzzle brake will take out about 1/2 the recoil. If your barrel isn't threaded, Witt Machine makes clamp on brakes. I've had a couple for years and they never come off.

I've added weight to 7 different Boyd thumbholes. Remove the rear pad and drill 2 1" diameter holes about 2" deep and pour molten lead into the holes. Alsi add lead to the area in the forearm under the barrel. It helps if you can rout out or mill some of the material in the forearm to make more room for lead. Thus is for bench guns of course.

wt in the back for sure Iknow for a fact 260 rem with 18lbs in front would not shoot, tried every load in the world, plus some, by chance got a 6 dasher thought I don't need this wt, so it shot great,, well I put the 260 back on later without the wt and it now is a 1/4 shooter, I kicked myself right in the coo coo for that..... but they tell you on here all the time you just have to get it to click

Some years back I got a M70 Alaskan 338 that a horse had rolled on and broke the stock, so there was no collector issue. I wanted to add some weight so I routed out a dovetail channel in the fore end and poured in about twelve ounces of molten lead. It setup and when cool I glass bedded it as part of the stock repair. The stock looks like it's been through a war, but it shoots very nicely.

Remove recoil pad. Some stocks have a deep void for the action bolt. Some folks fill the void with lead shot, add a foam or cotton wad, and put the pad back on. Some of the newer composite stocks have a bunch of voids in them. Fill with shot, add wad, replace recoil pad. Lead shot is easily removed. It can rattle if not maintained, but is easy to add more wad to contain it. Molten lead is hot. It will burn whatever kind of stock material you have. It is also hard to remove and, more often then not, decreases the value of the gun.

My $.02.

Sorry about the 2 pictures, I can't seem to delete one. Well anyhow this was my project. Cut the forend and attach the piece of aluminum. It got rid of that stupid looking piece of green poly [although it worked ] and added the 3 inch wide front, plus gained weight. I polished it to match the barrel and it looks fine. Now to see how it shoots.
