Action weight difference SS vs titanium ?

I want to build an ultra light mountain rifle and have a SA 700 Remington I could use as a donor or I could squeeze a little more turnip blood out and sell the Remington and buy a Pierce ti. What I want to know is how much weight is actually saved by using the titanium action ? Does anyone have a SS Remington action stripped to weigh or know the weight of the 700 SA sans bolt and trigger ?

I've been looking and thinking on this too . according to pierce titanium is 42% of steel . here is where I got this info , along with a few action weights .

Your rifle will be about 9 oz. lighter, your wallet will be about $1300 lighter but you will have a very nice rifle,

I believe the Defiance Deviant light weight action is within 2 to 4 ozs. of the Ti. action.......

Boeden alpine is within a couple of ozs. too.......

Density of steel = 7,8
Titanium = 4,5 or 0,58 of steel.
7075 Aluminium = 2,8 or 0,36 of steel.

Perhaps the real lightening would consist in using 7075 for the whole of the receiver and steel inserts where needed?

I once heard somebody spell it out as... plan to lose $100 for every ounce you want to cut.

Probably not too far off in rough overall terms.

I'm building a long action Pierce TI. With Pierce bolt (lightweight) and Ti recoil lug, it is 15.75 oz lighter than my LA Remington. I'm mating it to a custom Kevlar 18OZ stock from Brown Precision. It has a #2 taper Shilen barrel and a Jewell trigger.

A custom action is way nicer!
But everytime i need to build a lightweight and check on titanium i just skeletonize a remington

Are you talking just the bolt or the receiver as well?

Do you have a pic showing the skeletonization?

Heres one i did years ago. I even got the scope rings and bases aong with the bolt shroud and handle. I usually mill slots on the non port side like i did on the port side of this one. This was an early one so i was scared but this guy is the first to send me pics back

Why not do a Savage bolt head with a titanium bolt fluted and handle drilled anlong with a skelotonized action body ? Could probably trim some Talley lightweights too. In fact thats what I want to explore .

Remember the Savage bolt head is heavier, the Ti bolt is steel and heavily fluted. I don't think you can cut a CM receiver in half and get within 8 oz of the Ti receiver.

I'm thinking a titanium bolt body fully lightened and then the Savage bolt head conversion would be lighter than an all steel lightened standard bolt. I don't see why it couldn't be done by Pierce since they're already making one piece bolts. Do it in titanium. Yes the bolt head is a little heavier but I would think it would be more than made up by loosing the steel bolt body and handle. I saw CF firing pins with titanium tips somewhere too so that can be added as well. I'm serious about this. If I'm going to build my ultimate mountain rifle I want to leave no stone unturned. A 6.5 SAUM with a Pierce action lightened as much as possible with a CF wrapped barrel and a CF ultralight stock. It would be a hunting rifle so I'm running out of energy I'd feel good about on elk around 700 yards so I could get away with a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18×44 BT @ 17oz and some Talley Lightweights.
