Action weight difference SS vs titanium ?

Ive done plenty of carbon barrels, ti actions, cf stocks, all that. I wouldnt put a savage bolt head on anything personally and a saum is gonna be unshootable at under 7lbs or so. Id go with a fluted #2 or #1 taper if i was trying to get real light

Ti bolt on a Ti action would be awful sticky. I was told of another Ti action on the market but cant remember the name of it now.

Well, he'll find out that he has a light rifle that won't shoot. The carbon fibre barrels do not shoot well and with the lightweight, you will be stirring the air while trying to aim it. Pay attention to what Dusty is saying.
All Ti receivers are sticky even with a cm bolt. Mine is going to Orlikon-Balzars for a PVD WCC coating to remedy this. Cerrokote and such are useless.
I think that John Pierce will not be interested in doing a Ti bolt with the Samage bolt nose.
You might try swiss cheesing the trigger on your ultimate MR.

Got my bathroom scales out. My receiver with bolt release and Ti recoil lug weighs 9oz. The complete receiver with the Jewell trigger and recoil lug is 1lb 3oz.

I'm well aware of how sticky titanium on titanium is and that it will need to be coated and as for CF wrapped barrels being inaccurate I've personally seen the newer ones drill bug holes so I'm not worried about that a bit nor am I worried that a 6.5 saum pushing 150gr Matrix or the spoken of 155gr Bergers will be unshootable. Shooting off a bipod or braced in some other way like laying on my pack. Freehand it would be challenging but it's very rare that I hold freehand on any shot and it would have to be very short for me to shoot freehand. It will not be waving around when I shoot.

Well, go for it.

Yes CF is short for carbon fiber. Another poster said something about not using a Savage type floating bolt head. Is there a good technical reason or just doesn't like them ? I've had great luck with Savage rifles but I've never converted a Remington style bolt to one so there may be issues I'm not aware of.

Savage bolt heads are designed to float in mass produced tolerances and be forgiving for a bad speedy setup. Why would you introduce moving parts into the setup instead of just doing it right to start with?

Dave,
The reason that I asked is why carbon fiber? I had mine made from Kevlar as it is lighter and stronger. The Samage bolt head will add a little weight also.
I think that you need to spend more time checking the various options before spending a lot of money for a combo that may not do what you want.

It was lone peak. I have heard reports that they are not sticky, but I have not handled one yet. Dusty is right, the Savage bolt head is a cost saving measure. It never was an accuracy aid, thats modern marketing. I am also not a fan of cf barrels, I have seen terrible accuracy from some.

If their receivers are not treated, they will be sticky. Has nothing to do with brand.
