how can i find out if my bolt is touching the barrel on a rem 700 action and if it is if its before or after firing i need to know before sending to a gunsmith

Put a thickness of masking tape on the bolt surface in question. Each thickness is about .003.

You should be able to get at least three thickness of tape on a factory action before it starts touching in the face.
