Action choice for hunting rig

I figured I'd ask to see what you are all using. I've acquired a few bolt guns over these past few years and only have one that's actually a repeater. (Kelbly Atlas tac.) I read on a forum that a guy got his Kelbly Atlas action wet and in sub zero temps, and the TG ejector froze in the outward position, not allowing him to chamber a round.

Looking to do a 7 Saum repeater early next year. Any advice on a repeater action that you'd trust with your life or the hunt of a lifetime on? Is the story above B.S? I like Kelbly because even with the slim chance something does go wrong the customer service is other worldly and it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. But just looking for opinions.

Thanks fellas
I have a new 7 SAUM barreled action waiting for a stock. I used a Surgeon 591 WSM action.

Tell Adam you want the Urbanrifleman 5 percent discount.

Honestly, my wife's Kauger Vpr is pretty freaking stellar. I was shooting it the other day. Very impressive. It's a bit cheaper than the CRS.

I use a XM in my 6.5x300wsm and there bottom metal no complaints.
Going off memory i believe the XM is 3.2 length and a 215 throated properly will be around 3.1 im around 3.05 for my 6.5x300wsm with a 140 VLD Berger

I get a kick out of hearing guys say that they hunt in extreme conditions, and then say that it was 0°F or something.
My son and I were just hunting late season elk in -35°C(-31°F). Failure to fire from the cold is starting to be a real possibility at those temps.
Not knocking all these recently introduced custom actions that are being mentioned, but they are mostly designed for the target range first and foremost.
Just get a good Mauser.

Can you explain why these actions are meant for the range and not for hunting? What qualities make them not suitable for a hunting rig?

Seems like a bold statement to make. Kelbly has been around for quite awhile along with many others.

Ya, that doesnt make sense to me. Many of my range trips were 20 below and the coldest I killed an elk was 16 below. Ambiant temp. Even in Montana 30 below was very rare. Im not talking wild chill. Never had any issues with a quality custom action. And you wont if you keep the grease off the firing pin.

I would use a pre-64 Model 70 or Sako L series or Sako A series. Or an H-S Precision 2000. Why? They have bolt lock safeties. So do Tikkas. A hunting rifle to me is to be slung and carried with a round in the chamber on a sling. Triggers on my hunting rifles are set at 3#. If your hunting style works for light triggers and a bipod, then that’s a different application. Sakos were always touted as being severe condition hunting rifles. The pre-64 M70 Mauser style trigger was intended for reliability. Do you hunt on your feet, from a stand, or on wheels? If that’s the case, weather resistance is not a requirement.

Older Sako actions are pretty darn nice.
