6 BRA action choice - repeater

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, and yes most guys here probably run single shot for this choice. But I want the ability to run a repeater, and have two actions at hand to use:

Defiance Tenacity
Kelbly Atlas

Looking for opinions on a choice between the two? Similar actions but the Atlas has mechanical eject, and I've heard of guys having luck with it running 6br/dasher/etc.

I have - actually have one right now, but it's set up with my 20 BR for coyotes. It works great. If I was going to wait it out I'd get another, but I have the two actions mentioned already in my safe and would like to get this done soon with my barrel coming in a few weeks.

I see. I have an atlas but not 6br. I would think your guess about the manual ejector is probably a good idea. Get some 6br mags and I imagine you'll be fine. They're just so silly expensive. I ended up doing a 6xc for feeding and mags.

You should be fine in AICS mags with a 6BR...takes some tuning and mag kits. I use primal rights mag kits to feed 6BRA in an Impact. I hear the new MDT mags are solid.


I shoot with guys running BR variants from AICS mags in pretty much every action you can think of.

That is sort of what I figured. Appreciate the feedback, it's nice that the kits are working as are the MDT magazines. As with any mag, some tuning will probably be required.

I had a dasher that was built on a defiance action that had no problems as a repeater. I use a bighorn origin for 6br and it is flawless.

Don’t be looking at the Borden Short 6..
It was designed for it.. but I see it’s not on your list…

If you do the Kelbly's Atlas, you will want the heavy duty bolt stop. It moves the bolt stop forward like .080" it keeps the cases from occasionally flipping in the chamber if you run it fast. You'll definitely need the Primal kits. Mine runs the BRA perfect and smooth as silk. Call Kelbly's, they'll get you squared away.

Getting ready to build one on a Bat VR Action. Came highly recommended by the gunsmith first a varmint repeater rig that can take mags.

I think either one is good, the main thing is magazine choice on a BR. If i was to choose id go with the kelblys and the short stroke bolt stop mentioned above

I think you mean "do be looking at the Border Super Short 6..."? That's what I believe, because it's a top notch action and designed to do exactly this.

But I understand him wanting to use one of the other two actions starting now. I would not want to wait months and spend extra money if the other options could work well.

OP, have you called Defiance or Kelbly to discuss the idea? They might point you to a particular arrangement that has worked well with 6BRA.

No where’s it WRITTEN.. in the OP post.
If I was a a PRS guy- that would be my choice.
Then Atlas..
But it’s just my opinion…

On looks alone I’d go with the Tenacity. Run AICS mags with a spacer. Get a feed lip tool.

All of mine are Zermatt/Bighorn TL3 actions, becuase I think it’s about as good of an action as money can buy, but nobody is gonna bad mouth a Defiance or Kelbly.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Some good feedback here for sure. It sounds like either action would run it fine…. It will mostly be for prairie dogs and targets.

I do have feed lip adjustment tool so either way I’ll probably get the primal rights kit or go with a MDT 12 rounder for BR as I’ve heard they work well.

I have used tikka595 actions on quite a few 6BR builds.standard 22.250 mag or after market steel ones I have used with excellent results.

I’m running an impact with 0 issues while using the mdt mags

I put a Defiance Rebel together as 6.5BR using the MDT mags and their LSS Gen2 chassis. Feed fine with no modifications.
