Action advice

sometimes the nut is just not on the barrel if you know what i mean you know i have alot of your barrel on several actions and many different stock setups and i know for a fact you can't walk into a gun store or shop online and buy the exact rifle anywhere .........JMO

Jerry is being modest. He has sent me some insane groups with my barrels. And not wallet groups. Like a LOT of groups.

The thing about this topic ("custom") and guns in general, is there is no committee that standardizes and regulates vocabulary.

I will admit the debate or discussion around nut versus no-nut could be interesting if it is backed up with real observations or evidence that can be repeated by others. If this is about aesthetics, then it will just swirl and that is okay too if you are happy with that sort of thread.

We shouldn't need to waste time arguing about the definition of custom or factory unless we are setting up a set of class limiting rules for a competition. And since that is just my opinion, feel free to argue all you like if it makes you happy.

In some places, if they try to define factory versus custom, the debate revolves around how many serial numbers were sold retail. Sometimes, they circled back and also set a price limit. Whenever there are competitive humans, you will find ones that will game the rules to the breaking points.

I have seen custom (shouldered) barrels/receivers that don't operate or shoot worth a damn no matter how the barrel was screwed on, and factory guns with nuts that shoot tight. No worries, YMMV, carry on.

They make a good action at a reasonable price with plenty of barrel options and added features over a R700.

Interchangeable bolt head
controlled round feed
pinned rail
mechanical ejector

They've been around a long time and most people report that they've received excellent customer service when needed.

Yup the Origin is a great lower priced action. I just went and picked up mine this morning from the FFL. I have two TL3s but wanted the Origin so I could use the TL3 prefits with a HLR recoil lug as well as any Origin prefits which there are a bunch. I don't use nuts but if you did they use a very common Savage small threads.

My lug will be here tomorrow and then this will have a barrel.

I’m not sure how expensive a Pierce action is, as it came with my Eliseo Match Rifle, but it is sweet. I run it across the course and it has to be close, if not as good as the Tubb 2k actions I’ve handled.

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered a CRS II for a tactical build.

Several long range records have been shot with Kauger actions, it’s worth a look.

It's a round holder, 2 rounds. It helps in stages where you need a couple more shots than your mag holds.

I prefer the prefit barrels because there is no need to headspace, just spin it on and torque it down. The Origin is machined so well that any gunsmith can make you a barrel without the action.

Yup the same as it's big brother the TL3. I have a .223, .308, 6mmARC, 6.5 Creedmoor and two 6mm Creedmoor barrels and all were shouldered prefits from smiths who have never seen the action. It's so nice to be able to do this. I would never buy another action where you can't get shouldered prefits.

I agree Rob, I also have TL3’s and as long as you thread the barrel for the TL3 you can use it on either weapon. I just wish I had started out making all the barrels for the TL3 but I bought the Origin first and did not know all the tricks then.

You do need the HLR lug which is .150" thick instead of the .250" thick Origin lug to use the TL3 barrels from a short action TL3. The Origin and I believe the long action TL3 can swap barrels though. Kind of weird as I wish they made them so they all worked on all actions but the $35 lug is worth it to have the options for the Origin.
