22-250 on Ruger action

I have a 22cal barrel blank on it's way and was going to rebarrel a Ruger 77 action sitting in my gun room to 22-250. Has anyone built a semi-custom rifle using a Ruger 77 action? Any and all advice or comments are welcome.

My hunting partner has a Hart barreled Ruger 77 in 7mm Rem Mag and it is a great shooter. He said the action truing cost him a bit more than his Remingtons did because there is more work involved for the smith. The gun shoots slightly under .5MOA all day everyday.

I did a switch barrel on a tang safety Ruger 77 in 308 and 243 AI. I opened up the barrel channel on the factory stock for the Douglas #5 taper in 308. Then I ordered a McMillen Hunter class stock and had it inleted for the 243 AI with the "light sporter Benchrest" contour.

The 308 with a 1-12 twist shot the 135,150g bullets into a single ragged hole in 308 very fast with Win 748 powder.

The hart 1-12 twist 243 AI with it's 26" heavy barrel shot the 70's at 3850 into groups in the .225-.275 range.

If you are going to rebarrel, I would hope that you would put the action in one of Ruger's laminate stocks instead of the plastic or fiberglass stocks, you will have a tack driver for sure.

Good luck

Howdy !

Fred Sinclair set me & a friend up w/ a M-77 featuring a 22" .22BR Hart barrel in
1-14 twist.

We used a Canjar trigger, that had a shoe you pressed FWD to obtain a 4oz
let-off. My friend still shot the rifle w/ Canjar trigger using the conventional 4lb pull

This rig worked just fine on groundhog, out to around 350.
This was before the advent of the newer VLDS, and heavy varmint bullets one has available these days.

A good trigger would be one challenge.

Best of luck in your endeavors !
