Possible new project - techincal advice

I got the urge for a new custom rifle build. Considered several donor actions as I am .243 poor (Remington, Savage, and an H&R) . The caliber I am considering is a 260 Remington but not settled on that as of yet. Looked to the Savage for ease of barrel swap. My Savage is an older 110, 243 screw spacing for the action is 5.06 aprox. (learned from this forum, older long action) This would allow me to load long which is desirable. My question is, what has Savage spaced or done to the bolt to give it a shorter throw? I briefly looked at this this morning, comparing it to a 110 30/06. Any advice would be appreciated to continue this project.

If I were going to do what you are suggesting, I would also go with the long action as well. BUT the donor rifle would be a Savage "Target Action" rather than a 110 model. If this is for best accuracy, the Target action way exceeds a 110 action, plus you might be able to find a dual port to boot. Good luck in your search.
